The experiment was conducted in the agroforestry Farm, Department of Agroforestry, Bangladesh Agriculture University, Mymensingh during April to October, 2003 to recorded the incidence of different aged saplings to two Albizia species under different Agroforestry conditions. Development was studied in terms of survivability and normal physical conditions of the seedlings/saplings followed by the Development of shoot in terms of plant height and number of branches. Establishment of the species was observed to be similar in all the treatments except that in medium-low land boundary (ail) upraised (flat) bed condition having poor performances due to partial water logged condition. The physical condition of the sapling also appeared to be similar except that in medium low land treatment which showed the highest abnormalities. The highest number of primary branches and the maximum height were attained by 18 month age group of sapling at 180 DAP and the lowest were attained by zero month age group of sapling at 180 DAP respectively. Among the different age groups the older seedlings/saplings of both the species could successfully be developed in all the field conditions with poor performances in medium low land treatment. Albizia lebbeck showed better performance than Albizia at sapling stage when properly managed following plantation in different field conditions.

  Performance

(i) To determine the percent survivability of sapling in the field.

(ii) To determine the establishment of saplings in the field.

(iii) To identify the suitable land condition of agroforestry farm for better establishment and

(iv) To identify the best stage of sapling to be planted.

The experiment was carried out during the period from April to October 2003 with 2 (two) Albizia species of different growth stage at different field conditions. The study was conducted in the agroforestry farm of the department of agroforestry, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh. Two timber, fuelwood and fodder yielding species namely Albizia lebbegk (Linn.) Benth and Albizia saman both the species belongs to the family Leguminosae. Comparison between of the tow species are as: Albizia lebbeck is a large deciduous tree with spreading crown and bipinnate leaves having raches of 7-15 cm long pinnae usually 2-5 pairs and 5-20 cm long, lowers in head, fruit a pod, 15-30 X 3-4 cm in size. Leaf less during cold season the root system is largely superficial. Flowering time May to June and Fruiting time December to February. The tree withstand periodic flooding and salinity young plants are capable of standing moderate amount of shade. It is propagated by seeds but can also be through stem cuttings. It coppices well, produces root suckers and can be pillared and lopped. The heartwood is brown to dark and fairly strong, moderately durable and takes a good polish. It weight about 750 kg/m3 in dry condition. Albizia saman is a medium sized to large tree with a spreading crown and bipinnate leaves of 45 cm long, pinnae usually 12-20 cm long, the outer the largest, leaflets smaller down words, leaflets 2.5 X 1.2-2.5 cm long. Flowers in dense heads. Fruit a pod, 12 X 1.5 cm septet, indehiscent. Flowering time: March to October Fruiting time: November to March. It thrives in a wide variety of soil. It is a strong light demander and tolerate permanent stagnation of water. It is easily propagated from both seeds and cuttings. The tree is fast growing Its' branches can be lopped periodically and coppices fairly. Timber is light with soft, which wood weighting 437Kg/m3 in dry condition. The heart wood is brown and medium hard.  Both seeds and saplings were used in order to get different stages of saplings growth for the experimental purpose. Seeds were collected from Botanical garden and saplings from local nursery. Saplings of 6 month, 12 month, 18 month and germinating seeds taking as 0 hr. Old stage produced excessive roots in polybag were cut off and saplings were kept under shade for 1-2 days following light watering. Soil status Soil pH ranges from 6.0-7.6 although most soil had values around neutrality. The average value of OM was 1.3 7%. The majority of the soil are deficient in total N with range 0.04-0.22% Deficiency of P, K, S, B and Zn were also found in some soil. The status of exchangeable C++ and M++ was above critical with medium to high range. At the time of land preparation cow dung @ 2.5-3 kg per mound and 3-4 kg per plot of 4X 0.25 m was applied. No chemical fertilizer was used. The selected portion of the land in the field was spaded respaded, the rough and large grasses/ weeds were removed, then cow dung was spreaded on the soil after which soil was again spaded and respaded to make it pulverized. Finally the beds were cleaned and prepared for planting/sowing. Planting of the seedlings was done on the selected land conditions. at the same time the germinating seeds were also sown assuming as 0 hr. of age. The experimental plots were arranged randomly and different aged sapling were sown randomly each plot. Data collection from different land conditions different age of two Albiza species at the agroforestry farm. Total treatment number is 6 that is showed in T1 to T6. That is T1 = Well drained experimental plot, T2 =On mounds along medium-low land boundary (ail), T3 = Along medium-low land boundary (ail), unraised (that bed) plantation (with partial water logged condition), T4 = Along medium land boundary (ail), raised bed plantation (with no water logged condition), T5 = Along medium-low land raised bed plantation along previously grow okra) and T6 = Medium-high land along hedge side/road side.

The two Albizia species showed comparatively almost similar performance in development in agroforestry field condition. Among the conditions only medium-low land boundary unraised bed showed the poorest development due to seasonal flooding and partial water logging condition. The mounds and the raised beds on the some condition showed better results. Since the 18 month old seedling/sapling can be established successfully in all conditions of the agroforestry farm. The managed and older aged sapling of both the species can be used for plantation on mounds or raised beds in medium-low lying areas with partial water logged condition like Aman and IRRI rice field. However, seed sowing of practices or plantation practices with younger seedling can done in well drained crop fields with good soils supported fences.
