Comparative Physiological Study on Some BRRI Varieties Under Normal Transplanting and Double Transplanting System

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiments were conducted to study the physiological performance of growth parameters and to find out the yield and yield components of some T. Aman varieties under different transplanting methods. For this, sprouted seed of BR22, BRRI dhan46 and BRRI dhan49 were transplanted at 30 DAS, 45 DAS, 60 DAS and double transplanting was done 30 days after first transplanting. The highest number of productive tiller was observed in normal transplanting with 60- day old seedlings for all the genotypes which was statistically similar with other treatment combinations. Dry weight was statistically similar both for double transplanting and normal transplanting at PI, flowering and maturity stage. In this study variety x planting method had no significant difference for yield. But there was significant variations present among the variety for the yield. The highest grain yield was observed in BRRI dhan49 which was similar with BR22 and the lowest yield was found in BRRI dhan46. However, normal transplanting and double transplanting showed insignificant effect on yield of BR22, BRRI dhan46 and BRRI dhan49 during T. Aman season.

Objectives:

To study the physiological performance of growth parameters and to find out the yield and yield components of some T. Aman varieties under different transplanting methods.

Methodology:

Sprouted seed of BR22, BRRI dhan46 and BRRI dhan49 were sown in the seedbed during T. Aman season. Thirty days old seedlings were transplanted at 10 cm X 10 cm spacing with higher number of seedlings per hill (9 seedlings) in a separate plot. Thirty, forty five and sixty day’s old seedlings were transplanted at 20 cm X 15 cm spacing to the main fields. Again 30 days transplanted seedlings were transplanted at 20 cm X 15 cm spacing to the main fields. BRRI recommended fertilizer and cultural practices were done. The experiment was set following RCB design with three replications. The unit plot size of all treatment combinations was 3x3 m². The area selected for yield was 5m². Tillering rate was measured by four adjacent hills basis and tiller number/hill was converted into tiller/m². At panicle initiation and flowering stage, samplings were done for different growth parameters from the growth area out of the area for yield measurement. Samples for yield components were taken from three representative hills and then it was converted for whole plot area. Grain yield was adjusted at 14% moisture level and converted it to t/ha. All data were analyzed by using CROPSTAT 7.2 statistical software of IRRI.

Achievement/Findings:

Yield of double transplanting and conventional TPR method during T. Aman season for 3 BRRI varieties (BR22, BRRI dhan46 and BRRI dhan49) were similar and it could only give benefits for maintaining physiological age of seedling and subsequent reduce of field duration.
