Tissue culture derived lines need to be evaluated before advancing to observational and other field trials. This allows selection of the desirable materials and reduction of the work load. Biotechnology Division conducts pedigree selection of all lines derived through in vitro culture to find out their suitability to the particular season. A total of 208 lines were grown in T. Aman/10 and 146 lines were grown in Boro/09-10 season. During T. Aman/2010, 226 plants were selected. From Boro/2011, 211 plants were selected and 22 homozygous lines were bulked from 146 pedigree lines. All the selected materials will be evaluated in the following season under respective trials.

To select the best progenies with high yield and salinity tolerance.

A total of 208 lines were grown in T. Aman/10 and 146 lines were grown in Boro/09-10 season. Each progeny was grown in a 5.4 m single row using single seedling/hill at 20 × 15cm spacing. Standard checks were planted after every 10th row. Fertilizer was applied at 120:25:40:10:4 of NPKSZn Kg/ha, respectively, and standard agronomic practices were followed.

During T. Aman/2010, 226 plants were selected. From Boro/2011, 211 plants were selected and 22 apparently superior (homozygous) lines were bulked from 146 pedigree lines. All the selected materials will be evaluated in the following season under respective trials.
