Field Performance of Tissue Culture Derived Lines: Progeny Selection

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Tissue culture derived lines need to be evaluated before advancing to observational and other field trials. This allows selection of the desirable materials and reduction of the work load. Biotechnology Division conducts pedigree selection of all lines derived through in vitro culture to find out their suitability to the particular season. A total of 208 lines were grown in T. Aman/11 and 146 lines were grown in Boro/11-12 season. Each progeny was grown in a 5.4 m single row using single seedling/hill at 20 x 15cm spacing. Standard checks were planted after every 10^th row. Recommended fertilizer dose was applied and standard agronomic practices were followed. During T. Aman/2011, 204 plants were selected. From Boro/11-12, 94 plants were selected and 70 homozygous lines were bulked from pedigree lines. All the selected materials will be evaluated in the following season under respective trials.

From Boro/11-12, 94 plants were selected and 70 homozygous lines were bulked from pedigree lines. All the selected materials will be evaluated in the following season under respective trials.
