Tissue culture derived lines need to be evaluated before advancing to observational and other field trials. This allows selection of the desirable materials and reduction of the work load. Biotechnology Division conducts pedigree selection of all lines derived through in vitro culture to find out their suitability to the particular season. During T. Aman/2009, a total of 208 plants and five apparently homozygous lines were bulked from 140 pedigree lines. From Boro/2009-10, 146 plants were selected and 17 homozygous lines were bulked from 186 pedigree lines.

To select the best progenies with high yield and salinity tolerance

A total number of 140 pedigree lines (F2-F5 generation) were grown in T. Aman /2009 and 186 pedigree lines were grown in Boro /09-10 season. Each progeny was grown in a 5.4 m single row using single seedling/hill at 20 × 15cm spacing. Standard checks were planted after every 10th row. Fertilizer was applied at 120:25:40:10:4 of NPKSZn Kg/ha, respectively, and standard agronomic practices were followed.
