Design, Development, Modification and Introduction of Self-propelled Reaper to Augment Crop Production

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Several field tests were conducted to evaluate the overall performance of the BRRI developed self-propelled reaper comparing with imported self-propelled reaper. In this test BRRI dhan-28 were harvested at Rangpur and Rajshahi Regional station of BRRI in Boro 2012-13 and T.Aman 2010-11 seasons respectively. During the field operation of the reaper with 1.2m head, the average field capacity of imported reaper were found 0.185 ha/hr (45.60 decimal/hr) and 0.222 ha/hr (54.82 decimal/hr) of BRRI dhan-28 cutting in Rangpur and Rajshahi respectively. On the other hand, the average field capacity of BRRI developed self-propelled reaper was found 0.278 ha/hr (68.66 decimal/hr) in 2011-12 Boro season. The average fuel consumption of imported reaper and BRRI developed self-propelled reaper were 0.733 l/hr and 0.825 l/hr respectively. The purchase price of imported reaper is almost double of BRRI developed self-propelled reaper. The overall performance of the BRRI developed self-propelled reaper was better than that of imported reaper in Bangladesh contest.

Methodology:

The complete design of self-propelled reaper has been done with the help of Auto CAD tools. In this machine for easy power transmission, a gearbox with mechanism of two forward and a backward speed have been introduced. Fabrication of the reaper has been completed at BRRI Research Workshop and tested at Rangpur and Rajshahi Regional station of BRRI.

A self-propelled reaper with a simple power transmission gearbox has been designed and developed. The field performance of the imported and BRRI developed self-propelled reaper was also evaluated. The average field capacity of imported reaper and BRRI developed self-propelled reaper were 0.226 ha/hr (55.82 decimal/hr) and 0.272 ha/hr (67.25 decimal/hr) respectively. The average fuel consumption of imported reaper and BRRI developed self-propelled reaper were 0.733l/hr and 0.825 l/hr respectively. The purchase price of imported reaper is almost double of BRRI developed self-propelled reaper. According to the analysis it is clear that the overall performance of the BRRI developed self-propelled reaper was better than that of imported reaper.
