Land and Water Resources Use for Sustainable Crop Production in Saline Zone-2010

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Field demonstrations were conducted to increase crop production by increasing irrigated area with fresh water in saline zone in two locations of Munshiganj area during Boro seasons, 2009 and 2010. Yield and related information were collected. BRRI dhan28, BRRI dhan47 and Hybrid were grown in the demonstration plots in 2009. The average yields of BRRI dhan28, BRRI dhan47 and Hybrid were 5.84 t/ha, 6.00 t/ha and 6.30 t/ha, respectively. The highest yield (6.30 t/ha) was obtained from Hybrid (Lalteer) and the lowest (5.84 t/ha) from BRRI dhan28. The yield was very encouraging for saline area. The total amount of irrigation water supply was 860 mm for BRRI dhan28, 1170 mm for BRRI dhan47 and 1200 mm for hybrid. These results showed that there was an excellent scope of increasing rice production during Boro season using less saline groundwater. In 2010, in Joynagar area the yield of BRRI dhan28 and BRRI dhan47 were 4.5 t/ha and 5.0 t/ha, respectively.

Methodology:

Rice was grown in dry season using suitable water. Field demonstrations were conducted in two locations of Munshiganj area during Boro seasons, 2009 and 2010. Yield and related information were collected. BRRI dhan28, BRRI dhan47 and Hybrid were grown in the demonstration plots. About 300, 98, 165, 113 and 12 kg/ha of Urea, TSP, MOP, gypsum and zinc sulphate were used for BRRI dhan47 and hybrid and 263, 90, 150, 113 and 12 kg/ha of Urea, TSP, MOP, gypsum and zinc sulphate were used for BRRI dhan28.

Achievement/Findings:

The highest yield (6.30 t/ha) was obtained from Hybrid (Lalteer) and the lowest (5.84 t/ha) from BRRI dhan28. The yield was very encouraging for saline area. The effective tiller number per hill were 15, 17 and 19 and filled grain/panicle were 117, 110 and 112 for BRRI dhan28, BRRI dhan47 and hybrid, respectively. In 2010, in Joynagar area the yield of BRRI dhan28 and BRRI dhan47 were 4.5 t/ha and 5.0 t/ha, respectively.
