An experiment was carried out to estimate economic benefit of farm reservoir for land productivity improvement at coastal area of Sonagazi, Feni district. BARI tomato (Raton) was cultivated after harvesting BRRI dhan32 in Aman season. An experiment was setup with 2 treatments replicated 4 times :  T0 = Rainfed condition (control); and T1 = Three irrigations at 14 days interval after plantation.Twenty six day old seedlings were transplanted in dibbling method on 15 December, 2009 after T.Aman harvest and harvested during 2 March to 9 April, 2010. Plant to plant and row to row spacing were 50 cm. One meter buffer zone between two plots and 30 cm wide drain were maintained in each plot to drain out the excess water. Fertilizer was applied at the rate of 550, 450, 250 and 9000 kg of Urea, TSP, MP and cow-dung, per hectare respectively. The whole of TSP, MP and cow-dung were applied at the time of final land preparation. Urea was top-dressed in three equal splits after first, second and third irrigation. Mulching was done after Urea application.Irrigation water was provided from the FR by hand sprinkler to irrigate the experimental plots by coupling the sprinkler with discharge pipe of a small centrifugal pump. Amount of applied irrigation water was measured by volumetric method. A light irrigation was applied just after transplanting for seedling establishment. Farm reservoir water was used for irrigation. First irrigation was applied at 14 days after transplanting (DAT).  For first irrigation, the root depth was considered 0-15 cm during the initial root development stage. In T1, second and third irrigations were applied after 28 and 42 days after DAT respectively. For second and third irrigations root depth was considered 0-30 cm. Additional 10% water was added with irrigation requirement to leach down the soil salinity. Total amount of irrigation water was used 43 mm for treatment T1. Soil moisture was measured before irrigation to determine the amount of water required for fulfillment of the crop water demand. Electrical conductivity (ECw) of irrigation water was measured before irrigation which was less than 2.3 dS/m, which has 90% yield potential (According to FAO report). The higher yield of tomato (23.55 t/ha) was obtained in irrigated condition and lower yield (16.16 t/ha) was obtained in rainfed condition from the experimental plots. From the study, the highest rice equivalent yield (REY) was recorded in Rainfed T.Aman (BRRI dhan32)- Irrigated tomato (15.62 t/ha) followed by Rainfed T.Aman (BRRI dhan32) rice–Rainfed tomato (11.92 t/ha) from the experimental plots and the third highest REY was found in Rainfed T.Aman rice (Local)-Irrigated tomato in farmers plots (11.62). The variation in REY was mostly governed by irrigated Rabi crop (tomato) and cultivation of high yielding T.Aman rice (BRRI dhan32). It was observed that in farmers' field irrigated Rabi crops yields were lower than experimental plots. In farmers' field, crop yield could be increased by adopting appropriate management practices and use of high yielding T.Aman rice varieties.
