Effect of N Fertilization Methods (usg and Prilled Urea) in Transplanted Rice Cultivation for Different Rice Varieties (mv and Hybrid) Under Awd System-2011

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

A field experiment was conducted to quantify amount of water needed for MV and hybrid rice cultivation (short and long duration); and to determine WUE, water productivity and profitability of AWD for Boro rice at BRRI farm, Gazipur. The varieties were BRRI dhan28, BRRI dhan29 as modern variety and BRRI hybrid2 and Hybrid Heera as hybrid variety. Methods of urea application was prilled urea and USG. Water productivity was highest 6.94 kg/ha-mm in treatment V₃F₂(BRRI hybrid2 and USG). Water use efficiency, gave better performance V₂F₁ (BRRI dhan29 and Prilled urea), V2F2 (BRRI dhan29 and USG) gave better performance (84% and 84%) compared to treatment V₁F₁, BRRI dhan28 and prilled urea, V₁F₂, BRRI dhan28 and USG. The highest grain yield (7600 kg/ha) was recorded with BRRI hybrid2 and USG (V₃F₂) respectively.

Achievement/Findings:

Water applied for land preparation was 250 mm. The highest amount of irrigation water (1118 mm) was applied for treatment V₂F₁ and V₂F₂(BRRI dhan29 and Prilled Urea), (BRRI dhan29 and USG) respectively. Lowest amount of irrigation water (1050 mm) was applied for treatment V₁F₁and V₁F₂ (BRRI dhan28 and Prilled Urea) and (BRRI dhan28 and USG) respectively. It was observed that water productivity was highest 6.94 kg/ha-mm in treatment V₃F₂(BRRI hybrid-2) and USG and lowest 4.81 kg/ha-mm in treatment V₁F₁_, BRRI dhan28 and prilled urea).In terms of water use efficiency treatments V₂F₁ (BRRI dhan29 and Prilled urea), V2F2 (BRRI dhan29 and USG) gave better performance (84% and 84%) compared to treatment V₁F₁, BRRI dhan28 and prilled urea, V₁F₂, BRRI dhan28 and USG. Yield and yield contributing character of different HYV and Hybrid rice were statistically significant difference by interaction effect of variety and fertilizer. The highest panicle/m² (396) was recorded with hybrid Heera and USG (V₄F₂) respectively. The lowest panicle/m² (222) was recorded with BRRI dhan28 and prilled urea (V₁F₁)_. The highest sterility (14%) was recorded with BRRI dhan29 and prilled urea (V₂F₁). The lowest sterility (8%) was recorded with BRRI hybrid2 and USG (V₃F₂)). The highest 1000 grain wt. (27.6 gm) was recorded with hybrid Heera and USG (V₄F₂). The lowest 1000 grain wt. (22.6 gm) was recorded with BRRI dhan28 and prilled urea (V₁F₁). The highest grain yield (7600 kg/ha) was recorded with BRRI hybrid2 and USG (V₃F₂) respectively. The lowest grain yield (5066 kg/ha) was recorded with BRRI dhan28 and prilled urea (V₁F₁)_.
