Integrated Weed Management in Direct Wet Seeded Aus Rice Using Drum Seeder.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted at BRRI, Gazipur during Aus 2005 to determine the appropriate date and dose of Ronster (Pre-emergence herbicide) application along with hand weeding for weed control of direct wet seeded rice using drum seeder. Significantly highest number of tillers/m² found in weed free plots (no herbicides) and followed by unweeded plot at 20 days after seeding. No significant difference was found among herbicides treated plots. The rice Var. BR26 gave significantly highest ad the lowest number of panicles/m² and grain /panicles in weed free and unweeded treatment respectively. No significant difference was observed in number of panicles/m² and grain/panicles among herbicides treated treatments. The highest (4.19 ton/ha) and the lowest (2.44 ton/ha) grain yield were found in weed free plot and in unweeded plots, respectively. Herbicides with one hand weeding gave significantly higher grain yield than only herbicide treated plots. Significant difference was observed on total weed biomass production among treatments at 25, 40 and 55 DAS. Significantly the highest weed biomass was observed in unweeded plots.

Objectives:

To generate information on development of technology package on integrated weed management of direct wet seeding of rice using drum seeder.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted in RCBD with three replications. The treatments were i) application of ronstar at 3 DAS @1.0l/ha ii) at DAS @ 1.5l/ha, iii) at 6 DAS @ 1.0l/ha, iv) at 6 DAS @1.5l/ha, v) at 3 DAS @1.0l/ha + one hand weeding at 25 DAS, vi) at 3 DAS @1.5l/ha+ one hand weeding at 25 DAS, vii) at 6DAS @1.0l/ha + one hand weeding at 25 DAS, viii) at 6 DAS @1.5l/ha + one hand weeding at 25 DAS ix) weed free (removal of weed by hand) and x) control (unweeded). BR26 was used in the experiment. Fertilizer rate was 60: 40: 40: 10 kg as p₂0₅,K₂O S and Zn. All the fertilizers were applied as basal in the final land preparation. N fertilizer was applied based on LCC. Sprouted seeds were sown in line using a plastic drum seeder. The unit plot size was 5X8 m. Standing water was drain out before sowing and no standing water was allowed upto 10 DAS. Ronstar was applied at 3 and 6 DAS @1.0 and 1.5l/ha. Hand weeding was done at 25 DAS. Other management practices were applied as an when necessary. For determining of yield component, no. of panicles was counted from 1m² area, no. of grain was counted from 10 panicles. Eight m² area was harvested for grain yield. Number of tiller/m² was counted at 10 day intervals up to 50 DAS. Dry weight of weeds from 0.09m² (36 X 25 cm) areas was recorded at 25, 40 55 DAS. Data were analyzed and mean separation was tested by LSD.

Six day after seeding with @1.5l/ha of Ronstar application along with one hand weeding at 25 DAS was found suitable for weed control in direct wet seeded Aus rice using drum seeded.
