Effect of Rate and Time of Herbicides Application on Weed Control of Boro Rice Under Direct Wet Seeding Condition by Drum Seeder.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was conducted at BRRI, Gazipur to find out the appropriate rate and time of Ronstar to control weeds in direct wet seeding rice (DWSR) condition using drum seeder during boro season, 2005. Sprouted seeds of BR28 were sown on 30 December 2004.The experiment was laid out in RCBD with three replications. Five dominant weed species viz. Scirpus maritimus, Echinochloa crusgalli, Cynodon dactylon, Cyperus difformis and Marsilea quadrifolia were found higher in number in the field. The lowest number of panicle and grain were found when Ronstar was applied at 3 DAS@ 2.0l/ha. But significantly, lowest number of grains/panicle and 1000 grain wt was observed in contol plot. Weed biomass production was not varied due to variation of time of Ronstar application. Significantly highest weed biomass was recorded in control plot up to 40 DAS. Seedling mortality was high at 3 DAS@ 2.0l/ha of Ronstar application. Thus, the application of Ronstar at 6 DAS @ 1.5l/ha in the most effective to control weed in DWSR.

Objectives:

To determine the appropriate rate and time of Ronster application for weed control in direct wet seeding boro rice

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at BRRI, Gazipur during boro season 2005. Experiment was laid out RCBD assigning rate and time of pre emergence herbicide viz. Oxadiagon (trade name of Ronstar) was applied to control weed in the rice field. Four rate of Ronstar were i) 1.0l/ha, ii) 1.5l/ha, iii)2.0l/ha and iv) control (no herbicides). Ronstar was applied at the different dates after sowing are 3, 6 and 9 DAS. Ronstar was diluted with fresh water and applied by a hand sprayer at moist condition. BRRI dhan28 was used as attest variety. The land was flooded, ploughed and leveled to bring the soil in puddle condition. Unit plot size was 4.5X5.0m. One day soak and four day incubated seeds were sown by a plastic drum seeder. Fertilizer was applied at 80:60:20:10 kg/ha of NPKSZN. All the fertilizer was applied as basal at the time of final land preparation. N fertilizer was applied based on LLC. Other management was done as an when necessary. Standing water was drained out before sowing and the land was kept saturated and no standing water was allowed in the field up to 10 DAS. Number of sprouted seeds/m² at seeding date and also counted number of tiller/m² at 10 day intervals from 10 to 80 DAS. Dry weight of weeds from 0.09m2 (36 X 25 cm) areas were recorded at 20, 40, 60, and 80 DAS. Number of panicles was recorded from 1 m² area and numbers of grain /panicles was determined from 10 randomly selected panicles. For estimation of grain yield, 8 m2 area was harvested. Grain yield was adjusted to 14% moisture content. The collected data were analyzed following standard statistical procedure.

Achievement/Findings:

The application of Ronstar @ 1.5l/ha at 6 DAS control weed effectively in DWSR in boro season. One or two hand weeding at 30-40 DAS is enough for obtaining maximum grain yield.
