Integrated Nutrient Management on the Performance of Mv Rice in a Boro-green Manure (gm)- T. Aman Cropping Pattern

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The study was conducted at BRRI farm Comilla, in Boro 1999 to determine performance of MV rice in Boro-Green manure (GM)- T. Aman cropping pattern with six treatments T₁ = check, T₂ = FRG ’97, T₃Soil test base dose, T₄ = Recycled crop residue + IPNS chemical fertilizer, T₅ = T3 + CD (5 t/ha OD basis), T6 = Local farmers practice. The tested cropping pattern was Boro (BRRI dhan29)- GM-T Aman (BRRI dhan31). In T. Aman 2002, the grain yield of BRRI dhan31 increased significantly with different fertilizer application. The highest grain yield (5.74 t/ha) was obtained with 100 % N + 50% PKS treatment followed by Recycled crop residue + IPNS chemical fertilizer (5.62 t/ha) and full fertilizer doses for HLYG on soil test based (5.55 t/ha). From the economic analyses it was found that STB fertilization for HYG in Boro season followed by 100% N and 50% PKS in T.Aman season in rice-fallow – rice cropping pattern appeared to be most profitable fertilizer management for Comilla region-resembling site.

Objectives:

To determine performance of MV rice in Boro-Green manure (GM)- T. Aman cropping pattern

Methodology:

The study was conducted at BRRI farm Comilla, in Boro 1999 with six treatments T₁ = check, T₂ = FRG ’97, T₃ Soil test base dose, T₄ = Recycled crop residue + IPNS chemical fertilizer, T₅ = T₃+ CD (5 t/ha OD basis), T₆ = Local farmers practice. In T. Aman, T3 plot was divided into four sub-plots. The treatments for these sub-plots were: full fertilizer doses for HYG on soil teast based (T3a); 100% N + 50% PKS (T3b), 100% NK + 50% PS and 100% N + crop removal basis PKS (T3d). In T₄ treatment recycled crop residue (Rice straw at the rate of 5 t/ha as oven dry basis) + IPNS based chemical fertilizers was applied and the T5 main plot was divided in to two sub-plots which were T5a = full fertilizer doses for HLYG on soil test based and T5b = 100 % N + 50% PKS and T₆= local farmers’ practice (60-20-25-0-0). The soil of the experimental field was clay loam in texture, low in organic matter, total N 0.10%, available P 14 ppm, exchangeable K 0.18 meq/100 g soil, available S 10 ppm and available Zn was 1.0 ppm. The tested cropping pattern was Boro (BRRI dhan29)- GM-T Aman (BRRI dhan31). Urea was applied in three splits as 34% at basal, 33% at 25 DAT and rest 33% at 5-7 days before PI stage. At maturity the crop was harvested manually from 5 m² area at 15 cm above ground. However, 16 hills from each plot were harvested at ground level for straw yield data. Grain yield was recorded at 14% moisture content and straw yield as oven dry basis.
