Validation of Crop Model Oryza2000 Under Awd Water Management and Effect of Usg in Rice Production -2012

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

A field experiment was conducted to determine crop yield and water requirement under AWD method, to determine the effect of USG under AWD method, to validate yield and water requirement with ORYZA2000 model and to estimate the probabilistic yield under AWD method for similar the climatic condition. Three irrigation regimes were followed as I₁= continuous standing water, I₂= Irrigation when water level reached 15 cm below soil surface and I₃= Irrigation when water level reached 20 cm below soil surface. Three fertilization method were followed as N₀= No nitrogen, N₁= Prilled urea applied @220 kg ha^-1 and N₂= USG applied @70 gm between four rows. Irrigation applied in AWD method (when water level was 15 cm below soil surface) produced higher yield than that of continuous standing water application. AWD method up to 20 cm water depletion below soil surface reduced rice yield significantly. There was no interaction effect of irrigation methods, nitrogen sources and varieties on the yield of Boro rice. USG produced slightly higher yield (but not significant) than that of prilled urea when applied for short duration variety BRRI dhan28. But only USG cannot increase or maintain yield of longer duration Boro rice BRRI dhan29 compared to prilled urea. So BRRI recommended additional split of prilled urea should be incorporated in the USG treated plot with BRRI dhan29.

Achievement/Findings:

The yield of two varieties showed that there was no significant interaction among the water regimes, nitrogen levels and varieties. But yield variation of two varieties was found significant and yield difference among the nitrogen level was found significant but yield within the water regimes were not significantly different.The yield variation among the two varieties are mainly due to varietal reason, BRRI dhan29 always produced higher yield than that of BRRI dhan28 irrespective of water regimes because of higher growth duration. In case of no urea and prilled urea BRRI dhan29 produced higher yield than that of BRRI dhan28, in AWD at 20 cm the yield difference is significant. But USG treated plots produced similar yield for both the varieties under continuous irrigated water regimes, in AWD at 15 cm BRRI dhan29 produced lower yield than BRRI dhan28 but in AWD at 20 cm BRRI dhan29 produced higher yield than BRRI dhan28. Although the yield difference is not significant but the similarity of yield was due to using only USG for BRRI dhan29. Application of additional single dose prilled urea top dressing might produce higher yield of long duration BRRI dhan29 than short growth duration variety BRRI dhan28
