Progeny Selection for New Varieties Development During 1995-96

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Segregating population composed of 345 progeny rows from rice-wheat cross were grown in Boro and T. aman seasons. From this 114 plants and 41 uniform lines were selected. A total of 209 somaclones grown in Boro and T.Aman seasons developed from a salt tolerant line IR19743-25-2-2-3-1. Among them, 19 plants and 28 uniform lines were selected.

Objectives:

Methodology:

Each pedigree line was grown in a 5.4 m single row using single seedling/hill at 20 × 15cm spacing. Standard checks were planted after every 10^th row. Fertilizer was applied at 120:25:40:10:4 of N, P, K, S, Zn Kg/ha, respectively, and standard agronomic practices were followed.

One hundred fourteen plants and 41 uniform lines were selected from a rice-wheat cross. From a salt somaclones study 19 plants and 28 uniform lines were selected.
