The tested genotypes gave different grain yields in different locations and these entries could not produce higher yields than the standard check varieties in almost all the locations. On an average, none of the advanced lines over yielded the check varieties BR11 and Guti Swarna. Among the advanced lines, BR7474-60-5-3 yielded the highest (4.61 t/ha) followed by BR7465-1-2-4 (4.27 t/ha) whereas the check varieties BR11 and Guti Swarna gave a yield of 5.15 and 4.94 t/ha, respectively. BR11 and Guti Swarna gave higher yields with longer growth duration than the advanced lines. Although the yield performance of BR7465-1-2-4 is lower than the other entries but it has been matured in a shortest period of time (128 days) which is about 15 days earlier than the check varieties BR11 and Guti Swarna. However, the other advanced line BR7465-1-2-4 matured in 139 days. Mean plant heights of advanced lines were slightly lower than the check varieties. Number of panicles/m2 varied among the locations and genotypes and the highest number of panicles (299) was found in Guti Swarna followed by BR11 (282). The highest filled grains/panicle (126) was found in the highest yielder BR11. All the entries including checks were more or less affected by stem borer in different locations. The intensity of stem borer infestation was higher in Mymensingh. In Rajshahi and Dinajpur, the infection of different disease was comparatively higher among all the entries including check varieties. The tested entry BR7465-1-2-4 was affected by BLB (50%), BLS (35%) and also SB in different score in those locations. BR7474-60-5-3 was also affected by the above disease in comparatively lower score. Check varieties BR11 and Guti Swarna were also affected by the disease in different scores, especially Brown spot which was found about 35% in BR11 in those locations. On the other hand, the infection of above disease was very minimum (2-5%) in Satkhira and Gazipur.

  • To evaluate the yield potential and adaptability of advanced breeding lines at farmers’ field in different agro-ecological conditions.
  • To get feedback information about the advantages and disadvantages of the advanced lines from farmers and DAE personnel.

Two advanced lines: BR7465-1-2-4 and BR7474-60-5-3 along with BR11 and Guti Swarna as checks were tested in West byde, BRRI Gazipur, Satkhira (Kaligonj), Gazipur (Kapasia), Jessore (Monirampur), Mymensingh (Bhaluka), Rangpur (Pirgonj), Dinajpur (Sadar), Rajshahi (Godagari), Kushtia (Sadar) and Comilla (Sadar) during T. Aman, 2011. The trials were replicated thrice in each location. The unit plot size for each entry was 16.2 m2 (5.4m x 3m). Seeding time was 04 July, 2011 and Seedling ages were varied from 27-35 days among the locations under varied circumstances. Seedlings were transplanted at 20 cm x 15 cm spacing. Fertilizers were applied at 80: 40: 50: 10: 3 kg. N :P2O5 : K2O: S: Zn/ha. All fertilizers except urea were applied as basal and urea was applied in 3 equal splits at 15, 30 and 45 days after transplanting (DAT). Other standard management practices were followed as and when necessary. Appropriate measures were taken to control insect pests. Date of seeding, transplanting, flowering, maturity, plant height, lodging tolerance, pest and disease incidence, yield and yield components were recorded. Feedback from farmers and DAE personnel were also recorded. For yield estimation, 10 m2 sample areas from each plot was harvested at maturity and grain yields were adjusted to 14% moisture content.

Some farmers who used to cultivate rabi crops before boro crops, showed their interest about BR7465-1-2-4 due to reasonable yield and shorter growth duration, although disease infestation of the entry is higher than the check varieties. Based on the growth duration, grain yield and farmers’ opinion, BR7465-1-2-4 may be considered for Proposed Variety Trial (PVT), if disease reaction of the line is accepted by the pathologist.
