Validation of Crop Model Oryza2000 Under Awd Water Management and Effect of Usg in Rice Production -2013

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was carried out to determine crop yield and water requirement under AWD method,m to determine the effect of USG under AWD method, to validate yield and water requirement with ORYZA2000 model and to estimate the probabilistic yield under AWD method for similar the climatic condition at BRRI farm, Gazipur. Three irrigation methods were I₁= continuous standing water, I₂= Irrigation when water level reached 15 cm below soil surface and I₃= Irrigation when water level reached 20 cm below soil surface. Three nitrogen levels were N₀= No nitrogen, N₁= Prilled urea applied @220 kg ha^-1 and N₂= USG applied @70 gm between four rows. Irrigation applied in AWD-(15 cm) method yielded as per similar yield with CSW for both the varieties with water saving 18% for BRRI dhan28 and 27% for BRRI dhan29 along with the higher water productivity. In other hand, it may conclude that based on the yield, water saved and WP, AWD-(15 cm) was the best water application method for Boro rice production there was no conflict in USG application with AWD water regime.

Achievement/Findings:

The irrigation water applied for BRRI dhan28 varied from 584 to 738 mm and that for BRRI dhan29 varied from 561 to 825 mm depending on the crop growth duration. The amount of rainfall received by BRRI dhan28 and BRRI dhan29 were 48 and 161 mm. Rainfall occurred at the later part of the crop growing season, which was congenial to the rice growth and reduced the frequency of irrigation. Percent water saved for BRRI dhan28 in AWD-15 and AWD-20 were 18 and 21 and that for BRRI dhan29 was 27 and 32. The yield data of two varieties showed that there was significant interaction among the water regimes and nitrogen levels and also in varieties. The yield difference between the varieties is the varietal character. For both the rice varieties, USG application produced significantly higher yield compared to prilled urea. But within the nitrogen level, there was a declining trend of yield with increased of AWD level. Continuous standing water and AWD at 15 cm water depth produced statistically similar yield of both the varieties. But AWD at 20 cm produced significantly lower yield compared to AWD at 15 cm and CSW for both the varieties.There was significant variation was found in water productivity (WP) among the water regimes and nitrogen levels and also in varieties. For both the variety, WP was in increasing trend. But it produced the higher WP among the AWD-15 within the nitrogen level with an exception of WP between AWD-20 and USG application.
