The experiment was conducted to determine effect of drought for different transplanting dates; and ot determine drought severity and its probability at different growth stages of T. Aman at IETC, BWDB, Kushtia commonly known as Baradi farm in T. Aman, 2012. The experimental design was RCB with three replications. BR11 was used for the experiment with two treatments. The treatments were Supplemental irrigation (W1) and Rainfed condition (W2). In 2012 sufficient rainfall occurred before 17 July and transplanting was done on 17 July for both the treatment W1 (Supplemental Irrigation) and W2 (Rainfed condition). In the treatment W1, water requirement was 609 mm during the vegetative stage and it received 553.29 mm (150 mm irrigation and 383.29 mm rainfall) of water to meet that water requirement. But in the treatment W2, irrigation water was not supplied and only rainfall (383.29 mm) met 609 mm of water requirement. Total rainfall amount was not sufficient in vegetative stage and W1 and W2 received same amount during this stage, rainfall distribution was not uniform, so that sometimes crop suffered by drought. Three supplemental irrigations (150 mm) at vegetative, two (100 mm) at reproductive, and one at ripening stage (50 mm) were applied to fulfill water requirement in the treatment W1. On the contrary, treatment W2 depended only on rainfall. Treatment W1 received same amount of rainfall at reproductive stage (351.79 mm) along with two supplemental irrigations (100 mm) than that of W2 (353.79 mm rainfall and no supplemental irrigation). Treatment W2 suffered from terminal drought due to shortage and uneven distribution of rainfall. At ripening stage 160.49 mm water (110.49 mm rainfall and 50 mm irrigation) for W1 and 110.49 mm (rainfall and no irrigation) for W2 met up the demand of 305 mm water. For the treatment W1 one irrigation is applied because only the early part of ripening stage is sensible to water.

The experiment was conducted at IETC, BWDB, Kushtia commonly known as Baradi farm in T. Aman, 2012. The experimental design was RCB with three replications. BR11 was used for the experiment with two treatments. The treatments were Supplemental irrigation (W1) and Rainfed condition (W2). Thirty-day-old rice seedlings were transplanted with 20 cm x 20 cm spacing. Individual plot size was 5m x 3m with 60 cm buffer zones. In the treatment W1 crop was timely established applying supplemental irrigation and for W2, transplanting was done when sufficient rainfall occurred.  Fertilizer was applied as per BRRI recommendation. The whole amount of P, K, Zn and S fertilizer were applied as basal dose during the final land preparation. Urea was top-dressed in three equal splits. Weeding and spraying were done twice to control weeds and insect pests in each season. Rice yield was assessed taking samples from 10 square meter area of each plot. Harvested paddy was threshed, cleaned and weighed to determine yield. Finally, the yield was adjusted to 14% moisture content to determine yield per hectare. Supplemental irrigation was applied when water level in PVC pipe placed at a corner of each plot went down 25 cm from the top. A USWB Class A evaporation pan and a rain gauge were installed near the experimental field for determining rainfall and evaporation amounts during the growing season of rice. Data were recorded at 08:30h daily to determine seepage & penetration, rainfall and evaporation from the experimental field.

 The yield performances of both the treatments showed the impact of terminal drought at the reproductive and early part of ripening stage on yield In treatment W1 (supplemental irrigation) yield was increased by 1.16 t/ha compared to W2 which was about 22 percent of the yield. Both plant height and panicle per square meter were found higher in W1 than those of W2.
