Factors Influencing Chemical Fertilizer Use

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

MV rice crops are heavily fertilized to get high returns via higher production, but all fertilizers are not used up by crops properly. So, a farm level study was undertaken to find out the level of chemical fertilizer use, identify the factors influencing chemical fertilizers used in rice cultivation.and determine rice yield reduction due to lower quantity of chemical fertilizer use..Farm level primary data were collected through sample survey in six different areas around in BRRI Regional Station Data were collected using structured questionnaire. Finally, the data were analyzed using both the descriptive and statistical methods.Low level of fertilizer use at the farm level was a dominating factor and slowed down the national growth rate of fertilizer use. Fertilizer use at the farm level is constrained by a number of factors e.g, fertilizer price, lack of knowledge about recommended rate and soil fertility. The farmers’ apprehension of about 20, 25 and 42% yield reductions in the Boro, Aus and Aman seasons, respectively, were due to lower quantity of fertilizer use.

Objectives:

find out the level of chemical fertilizer use in different rice seasons;
identify the factors influencing the level of chemical fertilizers used in rice cultivation.
determine rice yield reduction due to lower quantity of chemical fertilizer use and
derive the policy implications from the above.

Methodology:

For the study, farm level primary data were collected through sample survey in six different areas around in BRRI Regional Stations. Data were collected by field enumerators using structured questionnaire. Finally, the data were analysed using both the descriptive and statistical methods like growth rate analysis.
