Adoption of Mv Rice in Bangladesh

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Adoption rate and yield of MV rice differ from season to season as wll as region to region. The present study was undertaken to determine the resion-wise adoption level and yield of MV and LV rice in Boro, Aus and T.Aman seasons . Necessary data were collected from nine agricultural regions of Bangladesh through direct interviewing the sample farmers using pre-designed questionnaire. Collected data were analyzed using simple statistical tools. Among the rice varieties grown in the Boro season. BR16 occupied the highest area (16.87%) followed by BR14 (10.47%) and BR26 (10.25%). In the Aus season, Purbachi covered the highest area (18.27%) followed by BR3 (9.08%) and Indian rice varieties (5.96%). In the T.Aman season. BR11 was found as the predominant rice variety covering 33.95% of the total rice area. The overall MV adoption increased by 4% compared to the year 1995. In Boro season, BRRI dhan29 out yielded all other rice varieties yielding 5.54 t/ha. However, BRRI dhan28 and BR14 also performed well in the Boro season in terms of yield. In the Aus season, BR16 gave the higher yield (4.71 t/ha) followed by BR12 (4.13 t/ha). In the T.Aman season, BRRI dhan30 gave the higher yield (3.90 t/ha) compared to other varieties.

Methodology:

Adoption level of MV rice differ from region to region as well as season to season. The present study was undertaken to determine the region-wise adoption rate and level of yields of MV and LV rice in the Boro, Aus and T.Aman seasons. Information on variety-wise adoption and data on rice yield were collected from farmers through the direct interview method using a pre-designed questionnaire. Adoption rate of MVs in the year 1995 was also collected from secondary sources. Collected data were analyzed using simple statistical techniques and presented in simple tabular form.
