A field experiment was conducted to minimizing conveyance loss and increasing water use efficiency in rice production and to increase irrigated area coverage by adopting water saving technologies. Dhamurhat Upazila of Naogaon and Hossainpur Upazilla of Kishoreganj districts were selected for implementing the Boro season’s  activities. The time was less to irrigate per decimal in PVC pipe water distribution system (PWDS) compare to without PWDS because of  99% of conveyance loss (30%) was reduced in PWDS. Due to almost zero conveyance loss water reached very quickly to the plots from source. Average 31.6 percent time was saved for irrigating plots in PWDS compare to without PWDS. An analysis  showed that irrigation cost per hectare per season was Tk. 6336, Tk. 10290 and Tk. 11880 under head, middle and tail, respectively without PWDS.  Nevertheless irrigation cost per hectare per season was Tk. 3960, Tk. 7128 and Tk. 8712 under head, middle and tail, respectively with PWDS. Using PWDS irrigation cost per hectare under head, middle and tail could be reduced by Tk. 2646, Tk. 3162 and Tk. 3168, respectively. Before installing PWDS irrigation coverage were 9.9 ha during Boro season 2010-11, but after installing PWDS irrigation coverage were 11.9 and 14.1 ha during Boro season 2011-12 and 2012-13 respectively. In the reporting period (2012-13) the PWDS was able to irrigate comparatively high land where water never reached from DTW without PWDS and it was possible to irrigate because of adding 150 feet PVC pipe with PWDS. The benefit of shifting from STW system to DTW system revealed that when the land leaves the STW system and goes under DTW system without PWDS and with PWDS then irrigation cost is reduced by Tk. 6910 and Tk. 10078, respectively.

Two sites, Dhamurhat Upazila of Naogaon and Hossainpur Upazilla of Kishoreganj districts were selected for implementing the Boro season’s  activities. Water was distributed in the DTW’s commend area through PVC pipe distribution system. A stopwatch was used for measuring the time required to wet the plots. The depth of irrigation was measured by using a vertical scale and thus the volume of water was found multiplying the plot area with depth of irrigation. Difference of irrigation coverage between before and after introducing PVC pipe water distribution system.

Irrigation cost per hectare per season was Tk. 3960, Tk. 7128 and Tk. 8712 under head, middle and tail, respectively with PWDS. Using PWDS irrigation cost per hectare under head, middle and tail could be reduced by Tk. 2646, Tk. 3162 and Tk. 3168, respectively. The selected DTW was managed by BMDA and prepaid irrigation was exist and there was earthen and damage pacca channel water distribution system. Due to earthen channel irrigation coverage was always lower than potential irrigation area. Before installing PWDS irrigation coverage were 9.9 ha during Boro season 2010-11, but after installing PWDS irrigation coverage were 11.9 and 14.1 ha during Boro season 2011-12 and 2012-13 respectively. Irrigated area was increased by 20 % (2 ha) in 2011-12 and in 2012-13 it was about 19%. But cumulative of two years (2011-12 and 2012-13) it was 42% (4.2 ha). However, next year (2013-14) a raised canal will be developed and through which additional 2-2.5 ha of land will be under PWDS. The benefit of shifting from STW system to DTW system revealed that when the land leaves the STW system and goes under DTW system without PWDS and with PWDS then irrigation cost is reduced by Tk. 6910 and Tk. 10078, respectively.
