Testing, Validation and Upscaling of Water Saving Technology in Rice Production (twst): Test (iii) Use of ‘check Valve’ in Shallow Tube Well (stw) for Reducing Hassle of Repeated Priming. -2013

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

A survey was conducted on use and nonuse of Check valve (CVA) in Shallow Tube well (STW) at Dhamurhat and Hossainpur Upazilla to avoiding repeated priming in STW. The most hassle and painstaking and laborious mater for STW operation is priming. The CVA non user had to prime his pump 3 times (SL1*SL2) per day and 315 times (SL1*SL2*SL4) per season whereas CVA user had to prime once per season. Moreover, for starting pump CVA nonuser wasted 131 hours and CVA user wasted only 2.5 hours. The most important thing was that the CVA user could save 9000.00 (Nine thousand) Taka in STW operation per season. In Boro season (2012-13), additional 2 new check valves were installed at Hossainpur. From the beginning to till farmers didn’t complain against the performance of the check valve. They are very happy with the performance of the check valve. Even 15 farmers in both locations are demanding to have our designed check valve after visiting our demonstration of check valve. Some local workshops have shown interest to manufacture check valve if they get indent from farmer.

About 15 farmers were demanding to have check valve and some local workshops have shown interest to manufacture check valve.
