Adoption and Demonstration of Water Saving Technologies Under Integrated Agricultural Productivity Project at Farmers’ Field in BARIsal Region. Trial:adoption and Demonstration of Water Saving Technologies at Farmer’s Fields in Boro Season-2014

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

A field demonstrations were conducted to reduce irrigation cost and increase water productivity; to increase water conveyance efficiency for rice cultivation; and to increase irrigation command area. The study sites were in Barisal region. From the field results, it was observed that highest yield (7.35 t/ha) was achieved from AWD practice and BRRI dhan29 at sadarupazilla of Patuakhali district. This yield was almost similar to the yield (7.33 t/ha) of farmers practice i.e. continuous standing water at the samge location. BRRI dhan47 gave 7.34 and 7.32 t/ha yield at sadarupazilla of Jhalkathi from research practice and farmers practice respectively. BRRI dhan28 gave higher yield in farmers practice than research practice at Jhalkathisadar and kolapara. Although, yield differences were negligible. Form the AWD demonstration plots it is revealed that, AWD practice did not make yield loss for any of the varieties.

Objectives:

Methodology:

The trial was demonstrated in Jhalkathi Sadar, Patuakhali Sadar, Kolapara of Patuakhali, Amtoli of Borguna and Sarad of Borguna. BRRI dhan28, BRRI dhan29 and BRRI dhna47 was used as test variety. Research management was AWD and farmers practice was continuous standing water. Fertilizer doses were applied as 300, 98, 165, 113 and 11 kg/ha of urea, TSP, MOP, gypsum and zinc sulfate, respectively for BRRI dhan29. For BRRI dhan28 and BRRI dhna47, the fertilizer doses were applied as 262, 90, 150, 113 and 11 kg/ha of urea, TSP, MOP, gypsum and zinc sulfate, respectively. The seedling age was 45 days.
