Abstract/ Executive Summary:

A field demonstration was conducted to study the effect of AWD irrigation practices on yield of Aus rice. As the rainfall was sufficient (1029 mm), so the irrigation requirement was low. Only 60 mm and 100 mm irrigation water was required in AWD and CS plot respectively during the whole growing season. Irrigation supply was lower by 40% in AWD practice than that of CS method. Yield was higher in continuous standing (CS) water supply practice over the alternate wetting and drying (AWD) practice. The CS practice gave 0.21 t/ha higher yield compared to AWD water saving practice. Because the water of this STW was slightly saline (1.2 ds/m) and not 100% fresh. In saline area AWD is not recommended, because intensity of salt becomes higher when the soil is dry.
