Response of Lemon to Npk Fertilization

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The effect of different levels of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium on the growth and fruit yield of lemon was studied at the Citrus and Vegetable Seed Research Centre, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, Joydebpur, Dhaka. There were eight fertilizer treatments. A dose of 60-150-60 grams of N-P₂O₅-K₂O per plant in the first year and 75-45-45 grams in the second year gave the biggest fruits and highest yield.

Objectives:

To maximize the yield of lemon by the use of N, P and K fertilizers in combination with organic manure.

Methodology:

The experiment was carried out at the Citrus and Vegetable Seed Research Centre of the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, Joydebpur, Dhaka. The soil of the experimental field was silt loam of pH 6. 40, organic C 0.44%, total N 0.071%, available P 19 micro g/g, and exchangeable K 85 micro g g. There were eight fertilizer treatments which consisted of control, N, P, K, NK, PK and NPK. One year old cuttings of the variety, 'Elachi labu' was planted on 6 August, 1980. The experiment was arranged in a randomized complete block design with three replications. The unit plot size was 6m x 6m. Plant to plant and row to row distances were maintained at 3m and 3m, respectively. Number of plants per plot were four, and total number of plants were 96. The fertilizers were applied in three equal installments at an interval of four month while manure was applied once in a year. The first application of fertilizers and manures were done on 5 August, 1980. Intercultural operations and irrigations were done as and when necessary. The observations were recorded on plant height, base girth, spread of plant, yield of fruit ad size of fruit. Fruit were harvested on 24 October, 1981 and on 19 May, 1982. Fruit yield were recorded per plant as well as per plot.
