Improvement of the Water Resources Management for a Sustainable Rice-wheat System in BARInd Area (barc Contract Research): Irrigation Scheduling for T.aman Rice Cultivation-1999

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

This study was conducted at Chowbaria, Rajshahi Barind area in Aman season to find out the amount of water require for optimum yield of rice. Experiment was carried out with five treatments.T₁=rainfed, T₂=one irrigation after disappearing of standing water at reproductive stage, T₃=Two irrigation after disappearing of standing water at reproductive stage, T₄=three irrigation after disappearing of standing water at vegetative and reproductive stage and T₅=four irrigation after disappearing of standing water at vegetative and reproductive stage. Treatments were replicated three times and the variety was BRRI dhan32. Fertilizer rate was 80-60-40 kg/ha of NPK. Highest grain yield (5650 kg/ha) was obtained from four irrigation and lowest grain yield (4000 kg/ha) was obtained from rainfed. Yield differences was 1.65 t/ha between four irrigation and rainfed. It was 1 t/ha between three irrigation and rainfed. Yield difference was very low between four and three irrigation. A total of 1347 mm rainfall was recorded during the season. Irrigation water supply was highest (280 mm) in four IR and lowest (65 mm) in one irrigation. Water productivity was highest 3.5 kg/ha-mm in four irrigation and lowest 2.9 kg/ha-mm in rainfed.
