Improvement of the Water Resources Management for a Sustainable Rice-wheat System in BARInd Area:study on Irrigation Scheduling for T. Aman Cultivation-2000

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The study was conducted at Bagsara, Paba Thana, Rajshahi Barind area in T. aman season to findout the suitable irrigation interval and water requirement for optimum yield of rice. Experiment were carried out with five treatments: T₁=rainfed, T₂= one IR after disappearing of standing water at reproductive stage, T₃= two IR after disappearing of standing water at reproductive stage,T₄= three IR after disappearing of standing water at vegetative and reproductive stage and T₅= Four IR after disappearing of standing water at vegetative and reproductive stage. Treatments were replicated three times with variety BRRI dhan32. Thirty days old seedlings were used with the spacing of 20x15 cm and fertilizer were applied at the rate of 80:60:40 kg/ha. Plot size was 7mx10m. A total of 1458 mm rainfall was recorded during the season. Water productivity was ranging from 2.43 – 2.47 kg/ha/mm under treatment T₁-T₅. The study year due to optimum rainfall was occurred, there was no irrigation required during growing period. Highest grain yield (3600 kg/ha) was obtained in obtained T₅ and lowest grain yield (3550 kg/ha) was obtained in treatment T₁. The yield of T5 was 450 kg higher than T₁. Yield difference between T₂ and T₃was low.
