Improvement of the Water Resources Management for a Sustainable Rice-wheat System in BARInd Area :measurement of Seepage and Percolation in the Field-1999

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

This study was conducted at Chowbaria STW and DTW area of Rice-wheat project in T. Aman season to find out the seepage and percolation rate of the soil of that area.Vertical seepage meter was installed in the selected paddy field. Rainfall data was measured in the experimental site. Evaporation data was collected from nearby BRRI regional station Rajshahi agromat station. Change in water storage in the field adjusted for rainfall on the raingage equals net seepage and percolation plus evapotranspiration which are the two components making up the basic irrigation requirement of rice. If nearby class A pan evaporation for the lowland rice growing environment is available then W+R-ET=Net S&P. The weighted average rate of seepage and percolation for different areas of rice-wheat project during T.Aman season was 7.33 mm/day.
