Benchmark Survey on Agro-hydrologic Information and Present Utilization of Khari:crop Information-1999

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

A benchmark survey was conducted to determine the agro-hydrological parameters which influence the performance of Khari and to assess the productivity of supplemental irrigation using conserve water through field visits and interviews using pre-designed questionnaire by interviewing 60 farmers used different Kharies as a source of irrigation water. The general survey data were on two major aspects. 1. General and technical information, 2. Crop and economic information. Recorded crops and economic related information indicated different crops grown using Khari water, input use, different crops, sources of labor, fertilizer, weeding, irrigation, harvesting, pump cost/season and increasing yield.Farmers grew different rice varieties in Aman season. These are Sharna, BR11 and Pajam, respectively. The average yield of Sharna, R11 and Paje at Rasulpur khari under irrigated condition were 2.19, 3.5 and 2.75 t/ha. On the other hand the same varieties yielded 1.09, 1.80 and 1.60 t/ha under rainfed condition. The average yield of Sharna, BR11 and Pajam at Jangla Dogachi Khari under irrigated and rainfed condition were 3.0, 4.0, 3.5 and 1.75, 2.5, 1.95 t/ha respectively. The weighted mean fertilizers used in Rasulpur were 79-29-37-2-2-52 and 66-28-36-0-0-47 kg/ha of NPKZSCD under irrigated and rainfed conditions respectively. Farmers reported that wheat, potato and different varieties of boro rice grown in Rabi/boro season in the respective Khari. The weighted mean fertilizers used for wheat, potato and boro in Jangla Dogachi Khari were 74-23-32, 170-67-151 and 107-34-37 kg/ha of NPK respectively. The average yield of wheat and potato were 1.85 and 13.93 t/ha, respectively. Farmers also reported that the average yield of Pajam and IR20 were 3.42 and 4.2 t/ha respectively.
