The experiment was conducted to study the effect of lime on the chemical composition of the tea foliage in Institute Farm and Baraoorah tea estate during 1974-75. Different doses of Calcium oxide was applied as liming material in the plots. The results showed that all the doses of lime have increased the lime, magnesium, phosphoric acid and nitrogen contents of the foliage. On the other hand, potash content of the foliage was found to be reduced.

To study the effect of lime on the chemical composition of the tea foliage

The experiment was carried out in two locations as Institute farm and Baraoorah tea estate. The plots were old tea section with highly acidic soil. The liming material was calcium oxide. The treatments were, T1= Control, T2= 160 lbs. calcium oxide/ac, T3= 320 lbs. calcium oxide/ac, T4= 480 lbs. calcium oxide/ac and T5= 640 lbs. calcium oxide/ac. The treatments were replicated five times under a randomized block design. Seventy two foliage samples were collected from the experimental plots. All the samples were analysed for nitrogen, phosphoric acid, potash, lime and magnesia.

The study revealed that with the application of lime, magnesium (0.23%), phosphoric acid (1.28%), lime (0.25%) and nitrogen (4.35%) contents of the leaf increased over control. But application of lime has reduced the potash content of the foliage.
