Pest Management
The experiment was carried out at the experimental farm of the Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA), Mymensingh during the period from January to May, 2004. The experiment was laid out in a RCBD with three replications. The size of the plot was 2m x 2m. Seven herbicides namely, Argold 10EC, Ronstar 25EC, Butabel, Aimchlor 5G, Chinese herbicide, Rifit 50EC and Machete 5G along with check (no weeding and no use of herbicides) were used in the experiment. Each herbicide was applied with 4 doses viz, control (D0), 3/4th of recommended dose (D1), recommended dose (D2) and 5/4th of the recommended dose (D3).The doses of herbicides were Argold 10EC @ 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5 Lha-1 (H1), Ronstar 25EC @ 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5 Lha-1 (H2), Butabel @ 18.75, 25.00 and 31.25 Lha-1 (H3), Aimchlor @ 5G 18.75, 25.00 and 31.25 Lha-1 (H4), Chinese herbicide @ 0.375, 0.50 and 0.62 Lha-1 (H5), Rifit 50EC @ 0.75, 1.0 and 1.25 Lha-1 (H6) and Machete 5G @ 18.75, 25.00 and 31.25 Lha-1 (H7). Fertilizer were applied to the plots @ 100, 30, 60, 20 and 5 kg ha-1 of N, P, K, S, Z through urea, triple super phosphate, muriate of potash. gypsum and zinc sulphate, respectively. The entire amount of triple super phosphate, muriate of potash, gypsum and zinc sulphate were broadcast and incorporated in the soil at final land preparation. The whole amount of urea (@ 100 kg ha-1 N was applied as top dressing in three splits. The first split @ 1/3rd of total amount of urea was applied at 11 days after transplanting (DAT). The second split @ 1/3rd of the total amount of urea was applied at 30 DAT and the last split was applied at Panicle Initiation stage. The data on weed parameters such as weed density, weed dry weight, weed control efficiency and on growth parameters of rice e.g. numbers of leaves hill-1, leaf dry matter (ghill-1) stem dry weight (ghill-1), root dry weight (ghill-1), panicle dry weight (ghill-1), total dry weight (ghill-1) and leaf area index (LAl) were collected at 80 DAT and 90 DAT. The data on yield and yield components were recorded after harvest. All the collected data were statistically analyzed using a statistical package MSTAT and the means differences were adjudged by Duncan's Multiple Range test.
