Effect of Foliar Application of Ncp-75 on the Chemical Components and Yield of Tea

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

NCP-75 is a synthetic compound containing NPK, micronutrients, hormones as well as it possesses pesticidal property. Besides NPK it includes Magnesium, Manganese, Zinc, Boron, Copper, Cobalt, Molybdenum, Sulphur and Calcium in desirable proportions. It is reported that NCP improved the quality of tea by increasing polyphenol and caffeine content and reducing the crude fiber of tea. Further tea bush have established its usefulness in nourishment of the bushes. An experiment was conducted in BTRI, Dauracherra and Phoolcherra Tea Estate to find out the effect of NCP-75 on the chemical components and yield of tea from 1978-83. Foliar spray of NCP-75 was given the plots @ 1 kg/ac at definite intervals and the control plot received foliar spray of water only. Sulphate of ammonia and urea were used at the same rate for comparison. Yield data were recorded regularly. The result indicated that significantly higher yield was found in NCP-75 treated plots than SOA and urea treated plots in all three experimental areas.

Objectives:

To find out the effect of NCP-75 on the chemical components and yield of tea

Methodology:

The experiment was laid in RBD with 4 treatments under 4 replications in BTRI, Dauracherra and Phoolcherra Tea Estate from 1978-83. Sulphate of ammonia and urea nitrogen equivalent to the amount of nitrogen present in 1 kg NCP-75/ac was used to study the comparative effect. Treatments were: T1= Control, T2= 1 kg NCP-75/ac, T3= 1 kg SOA/ac T4= 1 kg urea/ac. The control plots received foliar spray of water only. Observations on yield of green leaves were made after each application. A total of 6 foliar applications were made.
