Yield Performance of Three Tomato Mutants Over Locations in Winter Season

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

On-station trials were conducted during winter season of 2010-11 with three promising tomato lines viz., CLN 2413, D₆-12 and D₆-18 along with two check varieties, Binatomato-5 and Binatomato-6 at BINA sub-stations of Rangpur, Magura and Ishurdi. Results revealed that all the studied parameters were significantly different among the genotypes. Two mutants, D₆-12 and D₆-18 were shorter compared to other three genotypes/cultivar with being the shortest in D₆-12 (63.0 cm). On the other hand, CLN 2413 was the tallest one (112.5 cm). Two genotypes, CLN 2413 and Binatomato-6 produced lower number of fruits/plant but showed higher yield due to larger fruit size. However, D₆-18 produced the higher number of fruits/plant (50.3) with third highest fruit yield (2.0 kg/plant) due to smaller fruit size. Considering yield performance over locations, CLN 2413 showed the highest fruit yield at all three locations followed by Binatomato-6. Binatomato-5 showed the lowest/lower fruit yield at all three locations. Though D₆-12 and D₆-18 performed poor yield but these two mutants matured 7-10 days earlier than the two check varieties, Binatomato-5 and Binatomato-6.

Objectives:

To assess yield performance of three elite mutants over locations

Methodology:

On-station trials were conducted during winter season of 2010-11 with three promising tomato lines viz., CLN 2413, D₆-12 and D₆-18 along with two check varieties, Binatomato-5 and Binatomato-6 at BINA sub-stations of Rangpur, Magura and Ishurdi. The experiments were laid out following a randomized complete block design with four replications having a unit plot size of 4 m × 4 m. Row to row and plant to plant distances were 50 cm. Urea, triple superphosphate and muriate of potash were applied at the rate of 240, 220 and 250 kg/ha. Proper cultural practices were done as and when necessary. Data on morphological, yield and yield attributes were recorded at harvest from 10 randomly selected plants in each plot and fruit yield was taken from the whole plot and converted into kg/ha.

Achievement/Findings:

The genotype, CLN 2413 showed higher fruit yield performance over the two check cultivars, Binatomato-6 and Binatomato-5. Therefore, the genotype CLN 2413 may be released after few more zonal trails.
