Impact of Phosphorous Application Levels on Yield and Economics of Mungbean

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

A field experiment was conducted using different levels of phosphorous. There was four phosphorus levels (0, 30, 60 and 90 kg P ha^-1). Among different phosphorous levels, 90 kg P ha^-1 showed the highest seed yield due to produce higher number of pods bearing branches per plant and number of seeds per plant. 90 kg P ha^-1 also gave higher gross income, net income and benefit cost ratio. In a crux, 90 kg P ha^-1 could be successfully utilized on economic basis in order to get better seed yield in agro-climatic conditions of Bangladesh.

Objectives:

To evaluate the impact of phosphorous application levels on yield and economics of mungbean.

Methodology:

The field study was conducted at Research farm, Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture, Mymensingh during summer, 2009. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. The net plot size was 4 m × 3 m. The experiment was comprised of three three phosphorus levels (30, 60 and 90 kg P ha^-1). The variety used was Binamung-5. Phosphorus was side dressed at sowing. All other agronomic practices were kept normal and uniform. The data regarding seed yield and yield related parameters were recorded using standard methods. Data collected were analyzed statistically. Economic analysis was also conducted for all the treatments in order to determine the gross income, net income and benefit cost ratio according to method described in CIMMYT manual (CIMMYT, 1988). The purpose of this analysis was to estimate the economic returns of each productivity level.
