Comparative Water Management and Yield Performance Between Wet Seeded and Transplanted Methods of Rice Cultivation in Aman Season, 1998 at Gazipur Area

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment has been conducted to quantify the amount of water required for wet seeded rice (WSR) and transplanted rice (TPR) and to compare the yield performance between WSR and TPR. The study were conducted at Gazipur to find out the water requirement and yield obtained from WSR and TPR. Experiments were carried out with 4 water treatments of which T₁ was continuous standing water, T₂ was intermittent irrigation, T₃ as T₁ and 20 days no irrigation at vegetative stage and T₄ as T₁ and 20 days no irrigation at reproductive stage. The treatments T₃ and T₄ could not properly maintained due to rainfall. At Gazipur for WSR total amount of irrigation water required under treatments T₁, T₂, T₃ and T₄ were 780, 650, 600 and 625 mm, respectively. For TPR under these treatments water required were 800, 675, 649 and 651 mm, respectively. About 556 and 532 mm rainwater were used for WSR and TPR, respectively. For WSR both the higher water use efficiency and irrigation efficiency were obtained under treatment T₃. The highest yield ( 3824 kg/ha and 3024 kg/ha) was obtained from T₁ for both WSR and TPR, where as the highest water productivity was obtained from treatment T₂ under WSR ad from T₃ under TPR.
