Effect of Feeding Different Combination of Roughage and Concentrate on Growth and Nutrient Utilization by Jamnapari Weather

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Sixteen Jamnapari weathers (about II months of age and 17. 7±1.20 kg live weight) were used to investigate the effect of different ratio of roughage and concentrate on growth and nutrient utilization. The, whether were divided into four groups and randomly allocated into four diets in a completely randomized design. The four diets were formulated with the ratio of roughage and concentrate 3:I (T₁), 2.3: 1 (T₂), 1.8: I (T₃) and 1.5: I (T₄) by maintaining almost same energy level. The total Dry Matter (DM) and Organic Matter (OM) intake (g/d) increased by raising the concentrate levels but the differences were not significant (P>0.05). Crude protein (CP) intake increased significantly (P<0.05) with the increasing the levels of concentrate. The level of concentrate had no effect on the digestibility of DM, OM. acid detergent fiber (ADF) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF). The highest daily live weight gain (110.50 g) was recorded in wether fed diet T₃ (1.8: I) followed by T₄ (105.30 g), T₂ (102.00 g) and T₁ (95.20 g). The feed conversion efficiency (DMI/LWG), the protein conversion efficiency (CPI/LWG) and energetic efficiency (MJ MEI/LWG) increased by raising concentrate level but difference among the treatments (T₁, T₂, T₃, and T₄,) were statistically non significant (P>0.05). The growth rate and feed conversion efficiency by wether fed T3 diet was higher than those fed on T₁, T₂ and T₄ respectively.

Objectives:

To investigate the effect of different ratio of roughage and concentrate on growth and nutrient utilization.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at Nabin Agro Farms Ltd. at Konabari in Gazipur. Sixteen Jamnapari whether of about 11 months of age with an average live weight of 17.70(±1.20) kg were randomly divided into four groups and housed in a well ventilated housing system. The experimental weathers were allowed to adapt to a uniform diet for 7 days and faeces were examined and dewormed with Anthelmentic drug (Endcx). The four diets T₁, T₂, T3, and T₄ were formulated with different ratio of roughage (Para grass and urea molasses treated) straw and concentrate (wheat bran, gram husk, mustard oil cake, bone meal and common salt) of 3:1,2.3:1,1.8: I and 1.5: 1, respectively by maintaining almost same energy concentration and fed For 30 days. The ingredient and chemical composition of the experimental diets. Half of the allocated diets were given at 08: 30 AM remaining half at 15.30 PM. Concentrate diets were fed prior to roughage and had free access to fresh water. Daily feed intake and weekly live weight gain of individual animal were recorded before morning feeding. Representative of feed, refusals and faeces were collected and were analyzed for proximate components by standard method of AOAC (l980). Neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and acid detergent fiber (ADF) were analyzed according to the method of Georing and Van Soet (1970). All the experimental data were analysed using "MSTAT" statistical programme to compute analysis of variance (ANOVA) for Completely Randomized Design (CRD). Duncan's New Multiple Range Test (DMRT) was done to identify significance among the treatment means.

Achievement/Findings:

From the results of the present study, it is evident that the feed intake, digestibility of nutrients and live weight gain were not significantly improved by changing of roughage and concentrate ratio in the diet than optimum ratio. Therefore, it is concluded that the diet containing 1.8: 1 ratio of roughage and concentrate may be used for increase of live weight gain of Jamnapari whether.
