Length-weight Relationship, Condition Factor and Relative Condition Factor of Barbodes Gonionotus, Amblypharyngodon Mola, and Cuprinus Carpio in Rice Fields

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

As part of an ongoing rice-fish culture programme Length-weight relationship, Condition factor and Relative condition factor of AmblypharYngodon mola, Barbodes gonionotus and Cyprinus carpio were determined. To determine the length-weight relationship, condition factor and relative condition factor a total of 100 fishes of each species were collected from the experimental plots of rice-fish fanning where Amblypharyngodon mola, Barbodes gonionoius, Cuprinus carpio and Macrobrachium rosenbergii were stocked. The length-weight relationship of Barbodes gonionotus, Amblypharyngodon mola, and Cyprinus carpio were established as Log W= -1.2286095 + 2.5007478 Log L; Log W= -1.6521809 + 2.533173 Log L and Log W= -1.8940693 + 3.0829158 Log L respectively. The co-efficient of correIation (r) was found to be 0.996; 0.977 and 0.998 for B. gonionotus. A. mola, and C. carpio, respectively. The mean values of condition factor (K) and Relative condition factor (Kn) were found 1.398796 and 1.0001799; 0.947633 and 1.0016852 and 1.64511 and 1.0040318 respectively for Barcodes gonionoius, Amblypharyngodon mola, and Cvprinus carpio.

Objectives:

To providing a guideline on the well-being, relative robustness and other physiological or ecological condition of Barbodes gonionotus, Amblypharyngodon mola, and Cuprinus carpio under rice-fish culture system.

Methodology:

A total of 100 fishes of each species were taken from the rice field during harvesting to determine the length-weight relationship. Then total length (cm) and weight (g) of individuals were measured. Among the recorded data, the lowest and highest total length were determined and the range was divided into 9 class intervals for Barbodes gonionotus, 10 class intervals for Amblypharyngodon mola and 9 class intervals for Cuprinus carpio. Then the frequencies were found out on the basis of class intervals. The regression line of length-weight relationship for the each species was drawn by plotting body weight data against total length data. Again, all the mid values (cm) of the class intervals and the corresponding average weight (g) were converted to base log10 to obtain straight line relationship between length and weight.
