An experiment was carried out at the BAU Germplasm Center of Fruit Tree Improvement Project (FTIP), Department of Horticulture, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during the period from March, 2011 to July 2011 to study the control of mango fruit fly through management practices. Three mango varieties viz. Gopalbhog, Amrapali, Mallika and six management practices viz. bagging of fruits, sexpheromone trap, bait trap, insecticide application, sanitation and control were used. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. The varieties showed significant variations on the all parameters studied. The highest percentage (85.41%) of fresh fruits per plant was obtained from Amrapali where as the lowest percentage (82.15%) of fresh fruit obtained from Mallika. The treatments, bagging of fruits produced the highest percentage (96.91%) of fresh fruits per plant and under control management practice the highest percentage (30.85%) of infested fruits per plant were observed. Amrapali fruits with bagging produced the highest percent (95.75%) of harvested fresh fruits per plant. On the other hand, the lowest percent fresh fruits per plant were found in Mallika variety (67.65%) under control management practice. The highest yields 36.50 kg was found in the Amrapali varieties with the combination under sanitation practice, on the contrary the lowest yields 3.50 kg was found in the Mallika varieties with the combination without management (control) practice, respectively.

To study the control of mango fruit fly through management practices.

The experiment was conducted at the Germplasm Centre of the Fruit Tree Improvement Project (FTIP), situated at the Horticulture Farm of Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh to reduce the mango fruit fly population through the use of different management practices. The two-factor experiment was conducted in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. Fruits were randomly collected from plants for the study. The present experiment included two factors which were as follows- Factor A: It consists of three varieties; i) V1= Gopalbhog, ii) V2= Amrapali, iii) V3= Mallika; Factor B: six management practices; i) T1= Bagging of fruits, ii) T2= Sexpheromone trap, iii) T3= Bait trap, iv) T4= Application of insecticides and, v) T5= Sanitation (Weeding and pruning of dead branches) vi) T6= Control. The data collection were done based on the following points-number of harvested fruits/plant, number of fresh fruits/plant, number of infested fruits/plant, per cent fresh fruits/plant, per cent infested fruits/plant, Yield. The collected data were analyzed by a statistical programme MSTAT-C. The means for all the treatments were calculated and the analysis of variance (ANOVA) for most of the characters under consideration were performed by the Least Significance Difference (LSD) test taking the probability level 1% as the maximum unit of significance.

The investigation was carried out on mango cultivation for control of mango fruit fly with emphasis on non-chemical means and to increase yield of quality mango through a suitable ICM package for a mango production. Three varieties of mango viz. Amrapali, Gopalbhog, Mallika were taken for the study. Depending on the objectives of the experiment, data on yield and other necessary parameters were recorded and statistically analyzed for evaluation of different management practices. Regarding fruit fly infestation, variety Mallika was found more susceptible compared to Gopalbhog and Amrapali. The combined effect of variety Amrapali and bagging with white poly bag resulted in the highest percentage (100%) of fresh fruits per plant compared to Gopalbhog (95.75%) and Mallika (95%) with bagging. The variety Mallika with control resulted in the highest percentage (32.35%) of infested fruits/plant. The highest yields( 36.5 kg )was found in the Amrapali varieties with the combination under sanitation practice, on the contrary the lowest yields (3.5 kg) was found in the Mallika varieties with the combination without management (control) practice, respectively.
