The study was undertaken to know the effect of feeding UMMB and SUMB on nutrient digestibility, nitrogen retention and growth performance of sheep and goats. Apparent digestibility did not differ but the digestibility of EE (59.22 vs. 39.78%, P?0.05) and NFE (64.14 vs. 53.87%), increased significantly in UMMB supplemented group.  TDN; 62.87 vs. 54.31%) and ME content (9.57 vs 8.50 MJ/Kg DM) were significantly  higher in UMMB than those of SUMB supplemented diet. The digestibility of CF (74.89 vs.65.72%), EE (56.24 vs.42.76%) and OM (71.27 vs.62.68%) were significantly  higher in goats than those of sheep. Feeding of sheep and goats with UMMB significantly  increased DM (186.50 vs. 148.89 g/d) and CP intake (68.48 vs. 54.81 g/d) compared to those of SUMB. Daily cost of feeding and per kg live weight gain was influenced significantly by feeding of multi-nutrient block. Therefore, Feeding of SUMB was cost effective than that of UMMB. Though the supplementation of UMMB or SUMB did not affect on intake, nutrient digestibility and weight gain but, SUMB was cost effective. Therefore, sesbania leaf based urea-molasses block can be fed to the goat and sheep as an alternative to urea-molasses
multi-nutrient block.

To study the effect of supplementing urea-molasses multinutrient block (UMMB) and sesbania leaf based urea-molasses block(SUMB) on nutrient utilization, growth performance and economic comparison between sheep and goats.

In a 60 days feeding trial, thirty-two animals were selected, where sixteen in each of sheep (10.73±3.34 kgs) and goats (13.45±1.56kg), respectively in a two separate experiment.Forthe preparation of 100kg of UMMB 39kg Molasses, 20kg wheat bran, 20kg Rice polish, 10kg Urea, 6 kg lime and 5kg common salt were used. Wherein SUMB, rice polish and wheat bran was totally replaced by Sesbania leaf meal and mixed up uniformly. For the preparation of SUMB, Sesbania leaves were harvesting (pre-flowering stage), air drying, and grindingby grinder machine. Therafter, block (UMMB & SUMB) was made by cold method. The animals in each group (n?8/group) were assigned to two feeding trial of urea-molasses multinutrient block (UMMB) and sesbania leaf based urea-molasses block (SUMB), in a 2×2 factorial experiment. In nitrogen balance trial, eight animals each ofsheep and goats were kept in the metabolic crates.Total quantity of grasses required for each animal was weighed and supplied twice a day and left-over was recorded daily. Sheep and goats were allowed to lick UMMB and SUMB. Blocks weight was recorded and supplied to lick for 7 days and then residuals were weighed for the determination of intake. Daily sub samples of feed and residuals were kept for proximate analysis. Faeces voided were weighed individually and sample of each animal was collected, sun dried and stored in polythenebags until analysis and N determination. In addition, urine was collected in a bucket (which contains 100 ml 10% H2SO4 solution) and volume was measured individually. After nitrogen balance trial, eight animals in each species were allowed to graze for 6.0 hours daily (8.00 A.M to 14.00 P.M.) and were housed in individual pens. The animals (sheep and goats) werethen assigned at random to two feeding regimes, UMMB and SUMB, in a 2×2 factorial experiment. After grazing, animals were placed in individual pens and supplied UMMB & SUMB in a box for  licking. At the beginning of the experiment, live weight of each animal was taken in the morning (08.00 a.m.) with empty stomach and continues weekly until the end of the experiment. The initial body weight was subtracted from final body weight and determines the weight gain. Respective samples of feed, refusals and faces were subjected to chemical analysis for the determination of crude protein (CP), crude fibre (CF), ether extract (EE), ash and nitrogen free extract (NFE). Analysis of urine was also done for total nitrogen content. All the samples were analyzed in duplicate and the mean values were recorded. The data were analyzed in accordance with the principle and procedure for two factors (2×2) Randomized Block Design using MSTAT statistical programme. Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) was used to identify the significant variation among the treatment means.

Supplementation of urea molasses multi-nutrient block, marginally increased feed intake, nutrient-digestibility and live weight gain in sheep and goats. But, daily feed cost and averagefeed cost per kg live weight gains were significantly lower in sesbania leaf based urea molasses block. Therefore, sesbania leaf based urea-molasses block can be fed to goat and sheep as an alternative to urea-molasses multi-nutrient block.
