The pot experiment was conducted at the Patuakhali Science and Technology University, Patuakhali during August 2013 to April 2014.
Planting materials
The pot experiment was conducted during nine months period (August 2013 to April 2014). Pots were arranged in the split plot design with two factors, irrigated water in the main plot with 3 levels of irrigated every days (W1), irrigated every 2 days (W2), irrigated every 3 days (W3), and 10 drumstick genotypes (Accessions) in the sub-plot (from Acc. 1 to Acc. 10) and 3 replications. All of these 10 drumstick genotypes were selected and collected from different districts of Bangladesh (Table 2).

The collected genotypes were planted in 90 pots. In addition, the water treatments were selected on the basis of water stagnant condition of coastal belt of Bangladesh. The mentioned three water levels were managed by tap water of Patuakhali Science and Technology University campus.
Pots were arranged in the split plot design with two factors, irrigated in the main plot with 3 levels of irrigated every days (W1), irrigated every 2 days (W2), irrigated every 3 days (W3), and 10 drumstick genotypes (Accessions) in the sub-plot (from Acc. 1 to Acc. 10) and 3 replications.
Parameters studied
The following parameters were studied:
- Vigour of seedlings
- Height (cm) of the seedlings
- Stem diameter (cm ) of seedlings
- Number of leaves in seedlings
- Leaf chlorosis
- Leaf necrosis
Data collection and analysis
Apparent conditions of all treatments including vegetative growing indices (Height and number of leaves and stem diameter), at 150 DAS, 210 DAS, 270 DAS of experiment, the data of height (cm), stem diameter (cm), number of leaves and scoring of leaf chlorosis, necrosis and vigour of the seedlings in 3 levels of treatments viz. irrigated every days (W1), irrigated every 2 days (W2), irrigated every 3 days (w3) were recorded. At the end of each month, the vegetative growth parameters and other indices were investigated and scored those from 1 to 4 according to their conditions. So, that monthly numbers of 4 and 1 were related to maximum and minimum rates of vigour, necrosis and chlorosis respectively. Percentage of survived seedlings at the beginning of the second year (end of experiment) on the basis of three different levels of water in each pot was presupposed 100%. Hence, the statistical analysis of the obtained data were done by MSTAT-C software using general model procedures. Comparison of mean values for various parameters were also made using the Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT).
