A research work was undertaken to evaluate the feeding effects of Dicalcium Phosphate on Calcium balance and body condition score of dairy cows fed Napier grasses. The trial was conducted in the village Alokdiar, Shajadpur, Sirajgonj. Twenty cross bred lactating dairy cows of 320 ±15.5 kg live weight were used for the trial. Animals were equally and randomly allocated into four groups, T0 control (Napier+concentrate), T1 (Napier+concentrate+100g DCP), T2 (Napier+concentrate+150g DCP) and T3 (Napier+concentrate+200g DCP). Total DMI did not differ significantly (p>0.05) among the treatment groups but highly significant differences (p<0.01) were found in case of Ca intake & Ca balance and Ca in feces, Ca in urine, Ca in milk & total Ca excretion differed significantly (p<0.05) among the treatment groups. No significant difference (p>0.05) was found in case of DM in feces (%), DM in feces (kg/d) and milk production among the treatment groups except urine excretion. There was a linear increase of body condition score (BCS) in case of dicalcium phosphate diets (T1, T2 and T3), but BCS was linearly declined in case of non DCP diet (T0). Diets with 200/150g dicalcium phosphate may be suggested for optimizing Calcium balance and BCS of dairy cows fed Napier grasses.

To determine the effect Di-calcium Phosphate on Calcium balance balance and body condition score of crossbred dairy cows fed Napier grass in the Alokdiar village.

Selection, grouping and housing of animals Twenty cross lactating dairy cows were used in this trial. The average body weight and milk production were 320 (±15.5) kg/cow and 10 lit./d/cow respectively. The animals were randomly distributed in four groups each having five animals. The groups were designed as T0, T1, T2, and T3. The animal grouping was done in such a way that the mean live weight (kg) and milk production (l/d) of all the groups was almost similar. Dietary treatments Four diets were prepared and considered as four dietary treatments, T0 control (Napier+concentrate), T1 (Napier+concentrate+100g DCP), T2 (Napier+concentrate+150g DCP) and T3 (Napier+concentrate+200g DCP). The concentrate part of the ration consisted of wheat bran, rice polish, crushed maize, khesari bran, soyabean meal, til oil cake and salt. The concentrate mixture contained 18% CP and 10.31 MJ ME/kg DM. Fresh and clean drinking water was available for all the animalsMeasurement of feed intake and sample collection The roughage (Napier grass) intake of each animal was determined by subtracting the amount of leftover (if any) from the amount of feed given on the previous day. Refusal was collected every morning before feed supply and weighed to determine daily feed intake. During the experimental period, the animals consumed all of the concentrate. For metabolism trial output of faeces and urine was recorded daily during the last 7 days of the feeding trial period. The quantity of feed, refusal and feces were weighed daily and representative samples were kept for analysis. Milk was collected at that time. Faeces was collected at every 8:00 am and after 24 hours, weighed and sub-sample was taken every day from an animal. Samples of faeces were put in plastic bags in the freezer (-20 °C). Urine sample was collected in a bucket containing 6N H2SO4 solution to maintain a pH of 4 or lower and taken 10% sub-sample and stored in deep freeze at -20 °C until analysis. Chemical analysis of samples All the samples of feeds and faeces were prepared and sub-samples were used for analysis. The samples were subjected to chemical analysis for the determination of dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM) and ash. Calcium content was determined by Atomic Absorption Spectrometry method (Varma, 1985); using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer, MODEL 210 VGP, Buck scientific). All the samples were analysed in duplicate and the mean values were recorded. Body Condition Score (BCS) The body condition score (BCS) was measured according to the system of Soares and Dryden (2011). Statistical analysis The statistical analysis was done using ‘SPSS-11.5’ statistical program to compute analysis of variance (ANOVA) in completely randomized design (CRD). Differences among the treatment means were determined by Duncan′s Multiple Range Test (DMRT).
