Crop Establishment Method and Time of Planting for Escaping Water Stress and Cold Under Rainfed Low Land Rice Consortium (water Management Component): Rainfall and Evaporation-1995

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted to determine the impact of transplanting time of rainfed rice on WUE and to determine the optimum planting time of rice to escape water stress during T. Aman 1995 in Rajabari area of Rajshahi with 4 different transplanting dates (1^st June, 15^th June, 1^st July and 15^th July). The PVC tubes (one meter long and 2 cm dia) were installed in 16 selected plots of BR11 with 4 plots from each transplanting date. The readings of the PVC tubes were taken at an interval of 3 days to know the water status of the plots. Seepage meter was also installed and readings were taken daily from each of the 16 selected plots to calculate the seepage and percolation rate.Monthly total rainfall exceeds monthly total evaporation from June to September. During the other months total monthly evaporation was higher than monthly rainfall. The highest amount of rainfall (446 mm) was recorded in September and the lowest amount (2 mm) was received in January. The total annual rainfall was 1567 mm. The evaporation was highest (248 mm) in May and lowest (74 mm) in December. The total amount of annual evaporation was 1676 mm.
