Effects of Azotobacter Application on the Growth and Yield of Transplant Aman Rice and Nutrient Status of Post Harvest Soil

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Effects of Azotobacter application either individually or in combination with the use of organic and chemical fertilizer on the growth and yield of transplant aman rice and nutrient status of post harvest soil was evaluated . Increased growth in terms of leaf area index and tiller/plant was recorded from Azotobacter application both individually and in combination with the use of organic and chemical fertilizers. Considering both grain and straw yields Azotobacter exhibited significant inflence along with all levels of organic and chemical fertilizer. But overall best performance regarding growth and yield was observed from Azotobacter application along with the use of three fourth of recommended dose of chemical fertilizer.

Objectives:

To evaluate the effects of Azotobacter application on the growth and yield of transplant Aman rice and nutrient status of post harvest soil.

Methodology:

The experiment included the treatments: Two levels of Azotobacter application (Azotobacter inoculation and inoculation), Three levels of cowdung (cowdung 5t/ha, 10h/ha and control), five levels of chemical fertilizer ( one fourth of recommended dose, half of recommended dose, three fourth of recommended dose, full of recommended dose and control). Split plot design was followed with three replications.Rice variety BR11 was used in the experiment.Azotobacter was applied by dipping seedling in Azotobacter solution (10 ml Azobacter solution/ 1L water) for 20 minutes. Data were collected on leaf area index, grain yield. Organic matter and total N were measured by wet oxidation method.

Achievement/Findings:

Azotobacter along with the use of three-fourths of the recommended dose of chemical fertilizers performed the best in maintaining organic matter in rice field.
