Effect of Date of Transplanting on the Yield Performance of Advanced Mutants of Fine Grain Rice in T.aman Season

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

At Rangpur, the results revealed that mean grain yield of Aug. 20 transplanting was the highest (2.76 t ha^-1) and Aug. 10 was second highest (2.43 t ha^-1) . The mean grain yield of Binadhan-9 was 3.32 t ha^-1 which differ statistically from kalozira (1.64 t ha^-1). The interaction results showed that Binadhan-9 transplanted on Aug. 20 produced the maximum grain yield (3.73 t ha^-1) which was statistical differences with Kalozira (1.80 t ha^-1).The data recorded on crop duration from seed to seed revealed that in an avarge Binadhan-9 required at least 120 days and kalozira required 147 days. Result of Magura and Mymensingh revealed that mean grain yield at magura was the highest (2.38 t ha^-1) followed by Mymensingh which was 2.19 t ha^-1. Among different dates of transplanting, August 10 produced the highest seed yield (2.56 t ha^-1) followed by Aug.ust 20 transplanting (2.33 t ha^-1). The mean grain yield of kalozira was (2.43 t ha^-1). which did not differ statistically from Binadhan-9 (2.13 t ha^-1). The interaction results showed that Binadhan-9 transplanted on Aug. 10 produced the maximum grain yield (3.10 t ha^-1) and kalozira produced 3.11 t ha^-1 transplanted on Aug.20 at Magura location. The data recorded on crop duration from seed to seed revealed that Binadhan-9 required at least in average 120 days and kalozira required 147 days.

Objectives:

The objective was to observe how the yield performances of some fine rice varieties were affected by different dates of transplanting.

Methodology:

Two fine rice varieties were evaluated under three different dates of transplanting starting from Aug. 01, 2012 with an interval of 10 days at the experimental farm of Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA) sub- station Rangpur, Magura and Head quarter Mymensingh during Aman season of 2012-13. The three different dates of transplanting were August 01 (D₁), August 10 (D₂), and August 20 (D₃). The advanced fine rice varieties were Binadhan-9 (V1) and kalozira (V2). The experiment was laid out in a factorial randomized complete block design with three replications. The unit plot was 4 m × 3 m. Thirty day-old seedlings were transplanted @ 2-3 seedlings hill^-1 with a planting spacing of 20 cm x 15 cm. The plots were fertilized with 105, 15, 60, 15 and 1.5 kg ha^-1 of N, P, K, S, Zn as urea, triple super phosphate, muriate of potash, gypsum and zinc sulfate, respectively. All the fertilizers except urea were applied at final land preparation. Urea was equal applied in three splits at 7.30 days after transplanting at panicle initiation stage. The crop was harvested at different dates at maturity and data on yield and yield components were recorded at harvest and were statistically analyzed following the design used for the experiment and the means were compared with LSD.
