Effect of Different Spacing on the Yield and Yield Contributing Characters of Nerica Rice in Dibbling Method in Boro Season

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The results showed that the highest grain yield (4.26 t ha^-1) was obtained by Binadhan-8 followed by Nerica-10 which produced the second highest yield (3.24 t ha^-1). Nerica-1 produced the lowest yield (3.18 t ha^-1). Spacing did not showed significant effect on the grain yield. Highest grain yield (3.75 t ha^-1) was produced in 20 cm x 15 cm spacing and the second highest yield (3.47 t ha^-1) in 20 cm x 20 cm spacing. Interaction between variety and spacing showed that the highest yield (4.57 t ha^-1) was obtained by the variety Nerica-10 and second highest (4.27 t ha^-1) by Binadhan-8 when transplanted with 15 cm x 15 cm spacing.

Objectives:

The objective was to evaluate the yield performances of these varieties in dibbling method.

Methodology:

Two drought tolerant rice varieties were evaluated compared to one check varieties at the farmer’s field of Godagari, Rajshahi during Boro season, 2012-13. The varieties were Nerica-1, Nerica-10 and Binadhan-8 (check). The three spacing’s were 20 cm x 20 cm (S₁), 20 cm x 15 cm (S₂) and 15 cm x 15 cm (S₃). Three to four seeds were sown in dibbling method. The experiment was laid out in a RCB design with three replications. Data on yield and yield components were recorded at harvest and were statistically analyzed following the design used for the experiment and the means were compared with LSD.

Achievement/Findings:

Spacing trial in dibbling methods of Nerica rice showed that, highest grain yield (3.44 t ha^-1) was produced in 20 cm x 15 cm spacing and the second highest yield (3.15 t ha^-1) was in medium spacing in 20 cm x 15 cm spacing.
