Field experiment was conducted to assess yield performance of seven mungbean genotypes viz., N3J-305, E4I-515, E4I-913, E4I-915, MB-35, BARImung-5 and Binamoog-7 by evaluating morpho-physiological and yield contributing characters. Results revealed that high yielding genotypes (MB-35, E4I-913 and E4I-915) were taller with higher number of branches and leaves, greater chlorophyll content in leaves, greater TDM production and showed higher CGR compared to low yielding ones (N3J-305, E4I-515, BARImung-5 and BINAmung-7). Similarly, high yielding genotypes produced higher number of pods than the low yielding ones which resulted higher seed yield in mungbean. The genotype MB-35 showed superiority in respect of morpho-physiological and yield contributing characters resulting the highest seed yield (1382 kg ha-1). In contrast, BARImung-5 showed the lowest value in case of morpho-physiological and yield attributes which resulted lower seed yield (1051 kg ha-1) but BARImung-5 matured seven days earlier than the others. The seed yield had positive and significant correlation with branch (r = 0.78 **) and leaf number (r = 0.94 **), TDM ( r =  0.83 **) and number of pods  plant-1 (r = 0.90 **). The genotype MB-35 maintained higher number of branches and leaves, TDM and pods plant-1 and showed higher seed yield (1382 kg ha-1).

To assess the performance of five promising mungbean mutants along with the two check cultivars (BARImung-5 and Binamung-7) on the basis of morphological, physiological and yield attributes. And to select better genotypes based on yield performance and other superior characteristics.

A field experiment was conducted at the Ishurdi Sub-station farm of Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture, during the period from March to May 2007 to investigate morpho-physiological characters, yield attributes and their relationship with seed yield in seven mungbean genotypes. The genotypes were N3J-305,  E4I-515,  E4I-913,  E4I-915,  MB-35,  BARImung-5 and  Binamoog-7. The last two genotypes (BARImung-5 and Binamoog-7) were released varieties recommended for summer cultivation while next five genotypes (N3J-305, E4I-515, E4I-913, E4I-915 and MB-35) were promising lines. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. The size of the unit plot was 2.5 m x 2 m.  Plant to plant and row to row distance were maintained at 10 cm and 30 cm, respectively. Urea, triple super phosphate (TSP), muriate of potash (MP) and gypsum were used as source of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and sulphur @ 40, 120, 80 and 40 kg ha-1, respectively. Total amount of Urea, TSP, MP and gypsum were applied at basal doses during the final land preparation. To study growth characteristics, two harvests were made and at final harvest, data were collected on some morphophysiological, yield attributes and yield. The first crop sampling was done at 35 DAS and second crop sampling was done at 50 DAS. From each sampling, five plants were randomly selected from each plot and uprooted for collecting necessary parameters. The plants were separated into leaves, stems and roots and the corresponding dry weight were recorded after oven drying at 80 ± 2 0C for 72 hours. Absolute growth rate was carried out following the formula of Hunt (1978). At harvest, yield contributing characters and seed yield was recorded. The collected data were analyzed statistically and the means were adjudged by DMRT at 5% level of probability.

High yielding genotypes have higher number of branches, leaves, TDM and CGR which resulted higher number of pods than the low yielded in mungbean. Among different quantitative characters TDM, leaves and pod number plant-1 possess maximum correlation with seed yield (r = 0.83 **, 0.94 ** and 0.90**, respectively); and among the genotypes, MB-35 performed the best with respect to morpho-physiological, yield attributes and yield.
