Yield Performance Evaluation of BINA Developed Mungbean Varieties with Different Dates of Sowing

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The data on yield and yield contributing characters showed that the variety Binamoog-6 produced the highest yield (1426 kg ha^-1) followed by 1183 kg ha^-1for Binamoog-7, 1178 kg ha^-1for Binamoog-5 and 1011 kg ha^-1for Binamoog-2 irrespective of sowing dates. The best date of planting was February 10 irrespective of variety. Before and after which yield was lower (Table 1). Interactions of variety and date of sowing data presented in Table 2 showed that the variety Binamoog-6 produced the highest seed yield of 1598 kg ha^-1 when sown in February 20 but it had no significant variation with that of February 10. On the other hand, almost all the varieties produced maximum seed yield on February 10 sowing.

Objectives:

The objective was to observe how the yield performances of these lines were affected by different dates of transplanting

Methodology:

Four mung bean mutant varieties viz., Binamoog-2, Binamoog-5, Binamoog-6 and Binamoog-7 were evaluated with four dates of sowing (Jan. 20, Jan. 30, Feb.10 and Feb. 20) at BARI Regional station in Barisal. The experiment was conducted following split plot design with three replications. The varieties were assigned in the main plot and dates of sowing in the sub plot. The unit plot size was 3 m x 2 m. Data on yield and yield contributing characters were recorded at harvest. All recorded data were statistically analyzed using MSTAT Statistical Computer Package Program according to the design used for the experiment. Least significant difference (LSD) was used to compare variations among treatments.

Among 4 summer mung bean varieties tested for their yield performances at four dates of sowing showed that the variety Binamoog-6 produced the highest yield in February 20 sowing but no significant variation with that of February 10. Almost all varieties produced maximum seed yield in February 10 sowing.
