Effect of Different Dates of Transplanting on the Growth and Yield of Salt Tolerant Rice Lines in Boro Season

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The mean grain yield of Jan.01 transplanting was the highest (4.89 t ha^-1) followed by Jan.10 and Jan.20 while Jan.30 transplanting had produced the least. The results of mean grain yield of PBRC (STL)-20 irrespective of transplanting dates was the highest (4.76 t ha^-1) which differed statistically from the rice line PBRC (STL)-15 and PBSAL-655. The interaction results showed that PBRC (STL)-20 when transplanted on Jan.01 produced the maximum grain yield (5.36 t ha^-1) and it was followed by PBRC (STL)-15 which produced 5.13 t ha^-1 when transplanted on the same date.

Objectives:

The objectives were to observe how the yield performances of these lines were affected by different dates of transplanting

Methodology:

Six salt tolerant rice lines were evaluated under four dates of transplanting starting from Jan. 1, 2009 with an interval of 10 days at the farmer field of Vetkhali, Samnagar, Satkhira during Boro season of 2009.. The four dates of transplanting were Jan. 01 (D₁), Jan. 10 (D₂), Jan. 20 (D₃) and Jan. 30 (D₄). The salt tolerant rice lines were PBRC(STL)-15, PBRC(STL)-20, PBSAL-614, PBSAL-655, PBSAL-730 and STM-1. The experiment was laid out in split plot design placing dates in main plot and variety in sub-plot with three replications. The unit plot was 2 m × 2 m. Thirty day-old seedlings were transplanted @ 3-4 seedlings hill^-1 with a planting spacing of 20 cm x 15 cm. The crop was harvested at different dates at maturity and data on yield and yield components were recorded at harvest and were statistically analyzed following the design used for the experiment and the means were compared with LSD.
