Effect of Seed Priming and Boron Application on the Yield of Mungbean

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The results showed significant variation for seed pod^-1, plant population m^-2 and seed yield at Mymensingh location. Plant height, plant population m^-2, 1000 seed weight and seed yield of Ishurdi location had significant variation due to different seed priming treatments with B solution and basal application while plant height, 1000 seed weight and seed yield of Rangpur location had statistical significant variation due to different seed priming with water, B and B application as basal. The seed yields of the treatment T₅at Mymensingh was maximum (605 kg ha^-1) followed by T₄. At Ishurdi T₄ produced the maximum seed yield (1584.7 kg ha^-1) followed by T₂ and T₅and at Rangpur T₄ produced the highest (868 kg ha^-1) which were followed by T₃ and T₅. The over all results showed that basal application of B and seed primed with 0.05% B solution responded better for seed yield along with other parameters.

Objectives:

To study the effect of seed priming with boron solution and basal application of boron on the yield and yield components of Binamoog-5

Methodology:

A field experiment was conducted to study the effect of seed priming with boron solution and basal application of boron on the yield and yield components of Binamoog-5 during Kharif-1, 2009 at the BINA Head Quarters’ farm at Mymensingh, sub-station farms at Ishurdi and Rangpur. The treatments were T₁ = Normal seed sowing in line, T₂ = Seed primed in water for 5 hours, T₃ = Seed primed in water for 10 hours, T₄ = Basal B @ 2 kg ha^-1, T₅ = Seed primed in 0.05% B solution for 5 hours, T₆ = Seed primed in 0.05% B solution for 10 hours, T₇ = Seed primed in 0.10% B solution for 5 hours, T₈ = Seed primed in 0.10% B solution for 10 hours and T₉ = No application of NPKSB fertilizers. All the plots received recommended dose of NPKS fertilizers except treatment T_9. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with 3 replications. The unit plot sizes were 4.5 m x 3 m, 7.5 m × 2 m and 5 m x 3m at Mymensingh, Ishurdi and Rangpur, respectively. Data on yield and yield components of each location were recorded and they were statistically analyzed for each location following the design used for the experiment and the means were compared with LSD.

Seed yields were varied at all the locations due to different seed priming treatments with B solution and basal application. The seed yields of the treatment T₅at Mymensingh was maximum followed by T₄, T₄ at Ishurdi was maximum seed yield followed by T₂ and T₄at Rangpur produced the highest followed by T₃ and T₅. The over all results showed that basal application of B and seed primed with 0.05% B solution responded better for seed yield.
