Effect of Different Dates of Sowing on the Growth and Yield of Lentil Mutants in Different Locations

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

At Ishurdi, BARImasur-4 produced the highest seed yield (1192 kg ha^-1) in Nov.10 sowing. All the mutant lines possessed reasonable yield at sowing time Nov. 20. On the other hand, at Magura, the mutant line N₁M-134 produced the highest seed yield (1361 kg ha^-1) followed by the mutant line N₁M-119 (1260 kg ha^-1) at Nov.10 sowing. The check variety BARImasur-4 produced the lowest yield (943 kg ha^-1) at this location for the sowing time Nov. 10. The check variety Barimasur-4 also showed better yield performance at 2^nd and 3^rd sowing time.

Objectives:

To observe how the yield performances of these lines were affected by time sowing

Methodology:

Three lentil mutants with a check were grown under three times of sowing viz., Nov.10, Nov.20 and Nov. 30 during rabi season, 2005. The mutants were N₁M-149, N₁M-119 and N₂M-134 and the check variety was BARImasur-4. The locations were BINA sub-stations at Ishurdi and Magura. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. The unit plot size was 4 m x 2 m. Seeds were sown in lines with the row-to-row spacing of 30 cm. The seeds were sown at the seed rate of 30 kg ha^-1. At maturity plant population and seed yield were recorded from the 3 random harvest of one linear meter in every plot. Data on yield and yield contributing characters were collected from randomly selected 10 plants from each plot. The data were analyzed statistically using MSTAT-C software and the treatment means were compared by DMRT.

Three lentil mutants viz. N₁M-134, N₁M-149 and N₂M-119 and a check variety, BARImasur-4 were assessed under three sowing times viz. Nov. 10 and Nov.20 and Nov.30 at Ishurdi and Magura locations. The maximum seed yield (1050 kg ha^-1) was obtained from the mutant N₁M-119 at Ishurdi in Nov.20 sowing and mutant N₁M-134 Produced the highest yield (1361 kg ha^-1) in early sowing in Magura.
