Effect of Foliar Application of Chitosan on Yield of Mungbean

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was carried out with two munngbean varieties Binamoog-6 and Binamoog-7 at BINA farm, Mymensingh during March to May 2013 to investigate the response of mungbean at different concentrations of chitosan on yield and yield contributing characters. Five concentrations of chitosan viz., 0 (control), 50, 75, 100 and 125 ppm were sprayed at vegetative and reproductive stages of the mungbean varieties. In control, water was sprayed. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design with three replications. Yield and yield attributes were greater in chitosan applied plant than control plants. Number of pods and grain yield increased with increase the concentrations of chitosan till 75 ppm followed by a decline with higher concentrations.

Objectives:

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted with two mungbean varieties, Binamoog-7 and Binamoog-8 at BINA farm farm Mymensingh during March to May 2013. Five concentrations of chitosan viz., 0 (control), 50, 75, 100 and 125 ppm were sprayed at vegetative and reproductative stages of the mungbean varieties. In control, water was sprayed. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design with three replications. The unit plot size was 2 m x 3 m and plant spacing was 30 cm x 10 cm. Data on plant height, number of branches plant^-1, number of pods plant^-1, pod length, 1000-seed weight, number of seeds pod^-1, and seed weight plant^-1 were recorded. The grain yield was recorded on plot basis and converted in kg ha^-1. Data were statistically analyzed. Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT) compared the means.
